Solved Pc turns on gives a white dash -

Hey, so I don’t know if this is in the right place but I believe it’s a hardware issue but I’m not the greatest, I’m still learning, anyway besides the riff-raff my pc isn’t working, when I turn it on, I get a white dash on the screen and it would stay there indefinitely, now initially I thought it was a power issue, so I went ahead and bought a new power supply, a Corsair 1000w, I will leave a link to my full pc build on pc part picker below, but this wasn’t the issue, but after going around and disconnecting different parts of the pc, I believe I have isolated it to my Samsung ssd, but even with that disconnected I only get as far as the BIOS settings but can’t boot (this part is likely human error on my behalf) so if anyone could help that would be amazing, I’m gonna leave pictures too. Thank you!

The psu is like that because I was powering down draining and disconnecting different components to figure could I see where the problem was. I am also wearing a static bracelet that’s connected to the outlet


I did as you said and the issue still persists.

My OS is on

Western Digital Blue SN550 500 GB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive​

But my brother has the exact same PC and he believes fast boot is on the Samsung SSD that I think is the issue, but while in BIOS with the Samsung SSD plugged out I disabled fast boot and still couldn’t get passed BIOS settings.

I also forgot to mention which is kind of important, this issue does not stay forever, I could leave my PC plugged out for (longest I waited was Friday for 15 hours) and after that time my pc will boot up like normal, so my brother thinks it may be software

Okay that’s fair, has been noted and my PSU will not come out of the case as I power my pc up again, I believe the issue is either the ssd or the western digital as I know they can be problematic.

I’m not 100% certain that is the way it says in the bios regarding the western digital ssd, but I will check soon as right now I am sourcing a USB to put windows on it, then I’m going to disconnect my Samsung SSD and try boot my pc up via USB and see if there is an issue with the digital western ssd or is it the Samsung ssd

When I plugged the USB that has windows on it I got the following, further but still got told my system can’t handle windows 11




The last photo I can’t add for some reason but it’s basically a window telling me my system can’t handle windows 11, my OS on the western digital ssd is windows 11

Your BIOS boot order is wrong for booting from a USB device, MSI look to call thumbdrives a key so #5 should be #1 in the boot order as should your WD boot SSD when it is in place.

No worries mate cheers, ya I’m only across the pond if you are from the UK, I’m gonna do as you suggested and a couple of more things and update sometime tomorrow but I also know it’s a bank holiday too🙌 I’m currently running a self test on my WD

I know your offline and probably chilling but I decided to stick at it 😂 So I had to turn on TPM in my BIOS, clearly the people who built my pc either didn’t care or were lazy with what they’ve done, since I was able to get windows running I was also able to put it onto a blank 250gb ssd, but couldn’t install it on the WD because it was partitioned and they installed windows onto the 500gb ssd instead of the WD so it is indeed the Samsung 500gb that’s causing issues. Forgot to finish sending this before I logged off, also this morning my pc came on, but it’s come on with the windows on the new ssd, so I’m gonna transfer anything important from the ssd causing issues and de-partition my drives as 3 of them are partitioned stopping me from putting windows onto it, cause since it came on this morning I don’t think it’s a hardware issue, I think either windows has corrupted on that ssd, either way I think I’ve got it sorted for now, thank you for your help my man 🙌 Lastly I’m gonna try putting my os onto my WD and keep that exclusively for windows

So after more digging around the likely issue is the ssd that I didn’t know had the OS reached max capacity, and was having issues with booting and windows cause it’s full, so I need to copy anything important and then wipe the drive, then I’ve gotta transfer windows from my 250gb ssd, as it’s old and unreliable to my WD and keep the WD exclusively for windows 👍

Ya I think we can mark it as resolved, last thing for me to do is de partition, wipe the drives, put OS on WD and should be good, I’ve saved all important work related data which was the most important thing for me. So if I run into any other issues I’ll post a new thread but I’d say I’m good for now! Thanks again for your help!

Just to give one final update incase someone stumbles across this and was wondering the Samsung 870 SSD is infact corrupted, after wiping both that and the WD I went to restart and was again given the white dash with nowhere to go, so removed that SSD and my pc works fine, just have to buy a new one 👌
