Pc reboots during 'demanding' games

Status
Not open for further replies.
So I just upgraded my GPU to a RX 6950 XT Red Devil and my CPU to a 5800X3D.

Since I only had a 650w PSU it rebooted my PC when the GPU took over 300w in Games.

So I now upgraded to a 1000w PSU thinking that would be the end of that.

But it still happens sometimes when playing games on high settings.

Example: Trying to play 'Forever Skies' my Pc reboots after a few minutes playing.

Example: 'Warhammer: Vermintide 2' reboots Pc on Intro. After reducing graphics to a minimum I can start the game without that happening. In Options I increase the graphics to max and restart the Game. Now it seems to work and I play for about an hour, suddenly my pc reboots again.

No Problems on old games or games which don't draw much power from the GPU.

I did a stress test with OCCT and had no reboots when running my GPU and CPU at max simultaneously.

I just don't know whats going on, is my GPU or CPU just faulty? Is it not enough power?

You need to hope that you have not caused permanent damage to the GPU by using such a low wattage PSU.

Can you post the brand and model name or number of the previous and the present power supply (PSU).

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

be quiet is not a bad brand and if it was one of their Gold efficiency units and not used for too long the GPU will hopefully be ok, the replacement while not my choice of brand is not too bad for the GPU but with the amount of external drives you have you really should have gone for something more like 1200W and from a brand such as Corsair, EVGA or Seasonic.

While we look at the Speccy report, one thing I will suggest is that you change the Windows Power Plan to Balanced, High Performance is a form of overclocking that is known to cause stability and overheating issues and a weak PSU such as the one that you have will get hotter and weaker the more that you use it.

You are welcome btw :)

Edit to add: You have a few issues going on there, failing Hdds, a mismatch of RAM, problems with MS office and Windows about to get overwritten.

Partition 2
Partition ID: Disk #1, Partition #2
Disk Letter: C:
File System: NTFS
Volume Serial Number: 2C02578B
Size: 930 GB
Used Space: 863 GB (92%)
Free Space: 67 GB (8%)

For Windows to be able to run efficiently and to be able to update you need to have between 20 and 25% of the partition or drive available on a HDD and an SSD between 10 and 15% as free storage space at all times, if you don`t you risk Windows becoming corrupt or not being able to update which puts you at risk of malware attack.

Data only storage devices should not be allowed to get any lower than 10% of free storage space of the full capacity of the drive/partition on the drive, this also to avoid data corruption.

Please note that storage devices can physically fail if the amount of free storage space is allowed to drop below the required 10 or 20/25% minimum.

Uninstall as many unused programs, games, videos and music files as you can and get yourself another means of backing up to, post back when you have between 20 and 25% free storage space on the C: drive/partition and we can go from there.

Didn't even know I had the energy profile on performance. Changed that.
I made it so my Storage on the SSD with Windows is now over 10%.

Task Manager says all my 4 RAM slots are running at 3200mhz. Or did I buy different DDRx Versions?

Reading online I've found other people having this problem witht the GPU. I think I'll also try to get a replacement one if I still can from the seller.

Apologies for the delay getting back to you, not been around for a few days ( work :( ).

Regarding the RAM, two things it may well not be causing problems and you appear to have two different pairs of RAM, look in Speccy and you will note two different JEDEC counts, this is the increments of speed that the RAM gets increased.

Can you post a new Speccy url and MTB log for us + tell us if you are still having reboots when gaming.

Download MiniToolBox and save the file to the Desktop.

Close the browser and run the tool, check the following options;

List last 10 Event Viewer Errors
List Installed Programs
List Devices (Only Problems)
List Users, Partitions and Memory size

Click on Go.

Post the resulting log in your next reply for us if you will.
