Solved Pc keep crashing, possible malfunctioning ssd?

Hi guys,

4 month ago I built my new pc with these specs:

cpu: ryzen 5 2600

gpu: powercolor red dragon rx 5700

ram: 16 gb 3200MHz ballistix

motherboard: msi b450 tomahawk max

psu: corsair cx 550 m 80 bronze

storage: wd blue ssd 500gb (here I have installed windows 10 home)

storage 2: seagate 1 tb hdd;

I'm writing here beacuse I'm having some frequent crash issues. Recently minecraft is driving me crazy. While I'm in game the fps are ok, but then suddently a delay between actions and game response appears. So to make it disappear I exit the game and i get stuck on "saving world". So I have to reboot because I'm not allowed to do anything else. This happened to me several times, but the last time I rebooted I also lost the world.

Also like 1 week ago my pc wouldn't turn on, it kept showing me the "insert a boot device". So I turned of everything and I disconnected and riconnected the ssd's power and sata cable. Then it turned on.

Also 1 month ago I was playing lol whe everything crashed, I rebooted the pc and *** BSOD. I couldn't even turn the pc on. So I had to reinstall windows. But when I was trying to install it on the ssd again after being formatted, I had to try multiple time because is was very slow and after a while an error kept showing up saying the installation went wrong. Then the third time worked.

I would like to know why I'm having those problems, I'm starting to think is not Gpu fault but instead is the ssd that is not working properly.

Please let me know what It could be the problem if you have any idea,

edit: now that I think about it most games I had issues with were installed on the ssd, while with other games (apex, World war z) on my hdd I have never had problems. That is weird

Hello ZuppaSalata,

Your SSD may well have problems but first thing that I noticed in your specs was that your PSU is too weak for the GPU that you have, check the specs here and you will see that you need a minimum of a 650W PSU, for a high end card you should have at least a Gold efficiency rated PSU as well, Corsair make some good PSUs but their CX range are only intended for entry level desktops and not gaming rigs like yours.

I know that on amd suggest to buy a very powerful psu, but pc part picker shows that my build will draw a maximum of 350/400 watts.
Even this site says that my power drawn is around 400w

Also yesterday I was copying a 32 gb folder from the ssd to the hdd, when there was like 7 gb remaining to copy, it stopped, the ssd usage was 100% but both write and read speed were at zero. Then windows became slow as hell and I had to reboot. In this case I wasn't doing anything else so I don't think the psu is the main problem.
I just used CrystalDiskInfo to check ssd status and it says everything is ok.
I really don't know what to do

Easiest way to nip this in the bud;

If your GPU breaks and it is still in warranty who do you expect to replace the card, PCPartPicker, Extreme Outer Vision or PowerColor.

Do you think that PowerColor will give you your cash back if the card has been ruined by using a sub standard PSU because you did not follow the PowerColor recommendation of having a minimum of a 650W PSU..

After answering the above two questions, who`s PSU recommendations do you think you should be guided by.

The more RAM and storage devices you have the more you deprive the GPU of the power that it needs and likewise other hardware can also be damaged .

For the record, Game Debate say here for the RX 5700 PowerColor Red Dragon 8GB you need 650W and 42 amps on the +12V rail.

ok thanks for the help, I will start looking for a 650 psu.
But I still dont understand why it crashed when copying files or when I was saving my world. This could also be related to a psu problem? even if the cpu and gpu load was low when it happened?

Unstable power = an unstable system and as previously mentioned using an under powered PSU can damage all of your hardware and not just the GPU.

Don`t get just any old 650W PSU, pay a bit more for better quality and reliability, far too many people make the unfortunate mistake of spending an absolute fortune on all the other components then skimp on the most important component of all the PSU and then wonder why things have gone wrong when nothing will work or the PSU goes bang.
