Solved Pc goes straight to bios after psu replacement

Hello,
I replaced my psu 600w with a 850w and once i rebuild my pc it lights up, goes straight to bios. Everytime i restart it goes back to bios. I tryd to reset with the cmos battery, i checked all connection, i even put back the old psu and an old gpu but nothing helps.
It seems to find all components, cant figure out whats wrong.

I need help!

System specs are :

Aorus z390 pro
Intel core i7 9700k
32 gb ram 2133mhz
Rtx 3080
850w power supply
Windows 10

It might want you to reset the time and date, have you tried doing that?

Also- check your boot devices, make sure your drive is showing up and you are running Legacy or UEFI depending on what your Windows install calls for.

I managed to get in windows, finaly, by starting with the windows instal usb and format C, then reinstall windows. Finaly some progress!
Next issue is a bit of topic, the system doenst find my second ssd anywhere 😤 not in bios or the management in windows, i switched the cables in several ports off the mobo but no effect. Updated all i could also.. Would you know what i did wrong? Thx for the help

What kind of SSD is it? NVMe or SATA?

Make sure it has a connection to the PSU and motherboard if it is SATA.


Let's get some more information:

Download and run the free version of speccy.

Once you have ran speccy, follow the instructions to upload a snapshot found here.

Please list your power supply unit (manufacturer and model)

Yes they are connected to the mobo, the small primary ssd was found but the other is missing.
All was fine untill the new psu, could it be fried or something?

Just went to the store and bought a sata to usb connector. My pc still dont find it and the hard disc doenst turn on. Tryd it on a second pc and still nothing happens. It must be broken in one way or another 🤷‍♂️

That is a hard drive, not an SSD- which is an important distinction in this case since they are more sensitive.

Did you get a docking station? For 3.5 drives they need more power than 2.5 and those SATA to USB cords usually won't provide enough power.

If that doesn't show anything I would be leaning towards a dead drive- It's 8+ years old, Toshiba isn't the best name in drives, and it sounds like you even had you OS loaded onto it at some point. That's a hard and relatively long life for a consumer HDD.

No, no docking station.
I bought the pc 2nd hand a couple of years ago, there was a small ssd the primary station where os was located. The hdd (sry for the mistake) worked perfect until the upgrade of the psu. Would be a shame if its dead, had some important data on it. Thats lost i presume?
I will get me a new ssd tomorrow, cause the primary small one is only 120 gb 🙈
I do thank this forum for the tips and help!

I was looking at the picture and thinking - I'm only seeing one SSD and the other is a HDD, so where is this second SSD? :)

so yeah, 8yo drive, working before the upgrade, now not - would indicate maybe a knock, or just bad coincidence.

There are methods of data recovery from dead drives, but that requires a specialist- and usually runs in the thousands.

If you have a local computer repair store they may know someone who does data recovery/check the drive for you if you ask nicely. 🙃

****, so basically lost 😅 went for another drive this morning and its found instantly, guess the other one is dead for sure.
Thx for the help, glad people still willing to help pc noobs 😅
