Solved Partial Rebuild on a budget

Hey there,

I've had this PC tucked away in a corner for about 4-5 years (I say tucked away, my father had use of it for a while), back then it was alright but, now, I've got games which I can't play and I'm in need of upgrades. I'm trying to spend as little as possible, I've recently been taken out of work due to business failing and the cold hard world is proving difficult to get into another place of work. I'm going to try and keep as much as I can from this rig, to try spending as little as possible.

I'm keeping The case, the power supply, The HDD, the CD/DVD drive, and the Memory (for now). So that leaves me with The mother board, the processor, and the GPU to upgrade (the memory further down the line as 8GB DDR3 can kinda cut it for now).

Now I'm not just gonna say "what do you suggest" I have had a nosey around the internet in search of "budget" PC components, and have managed to narrow down the list, I just want to see if it's the right/wrong move, and if there would be an alternative which is either more powerful for around the same price, or cheaper.

So as far as the motherboard goes, on the budget side of things I found a Gigabyte H110M Gaming 3 Mother board (around 70), The processor I was thinking of a Intel Core i3-6100 (around 100) andfor the GPU I was thinking of a Sapphire Radeon 460 (around 90), now that's a total of 260. A price which in my state, is still a little too high, I'd prefer around the 200 mark if I'm honest (if I was really honest, I'd say less than that lol).Now I come to seek your advice, A) will this be a half decent set-up? and B) is there a better option for cheaper/around the same price? The world of PC seems to have just left without me, I knew a little before, but now I'm honestly clueless. back when I was building, the higher number generally meant better, now, it's beyond me lol.

Allen, a bit of advice from someone who has been in your shoes,.... save your money. Chances are you are not going to be particularly satisfied with a budget upgrade and you might actually need the 200 for food or gas, or.... When you get re-situated you'll be in a better position to do this the right way. Just my two bits.

Ah we still have income coming into the household, Bills are taken care of, and with my share of the spare money, I thought I'd rebuild a little and try and make my "out-of-work" life, a little more, enjoyable. I game a lot on Xbox, had a follower base quite large and actually thought I'd try the whole "streaming" side of the gaming but on PC instead. I'm not expecting to make money, just something kind of productive whilst I'm fishing for a new place of work.

Ah I know the specs, I want to play PUBG (Player Unknowns Battle Grounds) My PC can't quite handle it at the moment, my GPU and processor are lagging behind, and I've been told for a better processor I will probably need a better board to harness it. Not 100% sure if that's accurate though.

Hmmm, so I would need RAM, this is exactly why I came here, I knew I'd over-look something, thanks for that input .

I managed to put together a partial build in under 200 (pounds not dollars) in a cart, but I wasn't really happy with it. The thing is, I know its not going to be permanent, that's the only reason why I don't want to sink too much money in it. I used to be on my PC all the time, and when I was in work, I just dropped it, all I wanted to do was sleep and go out with my partner. I'm not looking for a massive increase, I just need that extra oomph, to help with my game.

I mean, I have £500, ready and waiting to spend on whatever I want to, but I just didn't want to sink it all into a computer/parts I might not be using in a months time, times are hard even when I'm in work it's a struggle. £500 may not seem like much to others, but it's taken me months to save that much for "leisure funds".

If I am to save a bit more, there's some PCs on the market for 4ton, and as stated before they're triple the stats of what I'm using now (or **** near to it). So it might be best getting one of them instead of trying to uplift this one, maybe see how much I can get for my rig to help with funds.

There are two HDD's (which to my amazement I never knew, I always though my PC was partitioned) and I believe they are both SATA drives. (considering it says Serial ATA on it? is that correct?).
I originally believed my PSU was 500W, but it's not it's a 450W.

I know it's hard to try and push older models, but any help towards funds is better then nothing, only downfall is I lose a computer for a while, just until I get another one that is. Only problem I'm having is actually finding a price to sell at. I looked on eBay for all the components and apparently it's worth around 200 pounds (which I don't believe at all, my thinking was more near the 100 mark).

How exactly would I go about finding this info out??

And should I rip a HDD out, and keep it as my personal storage like you said

Well luckily, I only ever store anything on my first HDD, so it's all on my primary, I never really used the second, so I could just pull that one out. I think I'll try on local selling pages first, I like to protect my pockets and save money where I can, as I'm guessing P&P would be expensive.

Hi Allan. Serial ATA means they are Sata Hard drives, which will come in handy when you get a new Rig.
You can't sell it with any of your Hard Drives in, under any circumstance.
Even if you WIPE the drive, and format it, there is software which can still retrieve your information off that Drive.
Sell it without a Drive.
Those drives will come in very handy for storage.

Ah so I should pull my second too? I can't ever remember using this HDD, but I do know that I've wiped this computer a couple of times (namely when my father got his mitts on it and sponged it with viruses and trojans and stopped any access at all).
