Motherboard specs:
MSI H81M-P33
CPU: Intel Pentium i5 4460 3.2Ghz (Haswell Refresh)
Ram: x2 4gb Strontium PC3-12800U
Zatech 500W PSU
No GPU
Monitor: Samsung Flat screen tv.
I recently got this old MSI Motherboard from a friend. The Fans come on and there is power on the board. Tested PSU and it is okay. CPU and PCH is getting hot. Took out ram and it makes 3 long beeps codes that means ram error. Put them back no beep codes so it is reading ram. Flashed the Bios with CH341A Bios Programmer. When I power motherboard up cpu fan spins up and turns off and turns on again. So it post but no single short beep code. Would appreciate if any one can assist me with this old fossil before I chuck it in to a bin.

Thanks for replying, Bruce. Sorry to respond so late. Yes I tried different ram sticks and ram slots one by one. When I remove the ram sticks there is 3 long beeps to indicate ram error or it can't read any ram. When I replace ram it is quiet but no post beep code. Maybe the ram I using is incompatible with motherboard.

The ram I got is G.Skill Ares, F3-1600C9D-8GAB, DDR3-1600, CL9-9-9-24 1.5V, PC3-12800 4Gx2 Intel XMP ready. The other ram is Strontium SRT4G86U1-P9Z 1600 2Rx8PC3-12800-11-13-B1

what temp and what type of cooling?

Where did you get the BIOS to flash it to? If done improperly and or with the wrong one, then you have a fancy door stop.

Did you replace the thermal paste one the CPU?

Can you access the BIOS and reset to factory also clear the CMOS and probably want to replace the battery.

Here is the motherboard information so you can look and see what is combatable.

Also see that you stated on another forum that you did the paperclip test on the PSU. Wish that they would STOP suggesting that usless test.

Bad PSUs can pass the paperclip test. The true test that eliminates a PSU from the equation is a replacement or trying that same PSU in another known working machine. Only these 2 can truly rule out a PSU.

Paperclip tests are flawed since you're advised to induce a load on one end of the PSU to get it to start, that test does not tell you how many watts the PSU can effectively output if connected to a full build.

I flashed newest bios version from MSI website with the CH341a programmer but it states that you must only use M-Fash or Live update. Unfortunately I can't boot in to bios so how am I suppose to flash the bios chip? As for the CPU and MCH I can't see temp but it should not get hotter than 80 degree Celsius. The CPU fan is a Intel stock fan and the PCH use a heatsink. You can see the motherboard on MSI website. I used the paperclip test to test voltages and all seems fine.
