hey guys,

so i been building up a basic gaming rig,

i5 7500 1151
gigabyte ga-z170xp-sli board
antec 550w psu
corsair vengence ddr4 dual 8gb modules 3200mhz

no gpu right now.

i have it all installed, when i power it on, the fans all come on, the motherboard lights up (has onboard leds for asthetics) and doesnt output a video signal, no beeping, nothing. if i remove the ram modules, i get the usual long intermittent beeping to indicate no ram/ram issue.

ive stripped it fully down, rebuilt it, all cables seated, removed the bios battery for 5 minutes holding the powe rbutton for 30 seconds during that time.

so im guessing its either faulty ram modules or faulty mother board? ive tested the system with just one ram module installed at a time and get the same results with both modules, bought as a pair.

any other advise would be appreciated.

Hello

Ok so you have made sure the mobo isn't grounding? Are your stand offs in the correct position? Have you installed the chipset drivers for the mobo?

When you stripped it down did you test it out of the case? You can do so using some cardboard to assemble parts back on and power on to test.

ive checked the motherboard isnt grounded out, its fine, i cant install ANYTHING because it doesnt post. yes it was tested outside the case and nothing is different to it being inside the case. i also have an antistatic mat for this kinda thing.

ive also checked all cables are seated correctly and fully insterted, nothing is loose. i've cleared out the bios as well

also tried it with a basic pci-e gpu that i know works. no change

as a tohught had it been shorting out, wouldnt that prevent the bios from beeping when ram modules removed? and wouldnt that beeping also confirm the cpu is working and compatible?

Understand that it does not post.

Do you happen to know what BIOS version is on it currently?

That CPU is combatable sine version F20 which may be the issue.

May need to get a CPU that is combatable with the version (or Lower) to see if it boots to perform the update.

UPDATE:

Yes the motherboard is combatable with the RAM you have yet according to the CPU specs you may wan to look into
DDR4-2133/2400, DDR3L-1333/1600 @ 1.35V

shooot, so i've never had that happen before, the cpu cant use the ram?

im going to update the bois to f20 anyway and see what happens after that, if needs be i will return the ram and get lower speed ram

Would be more stable to get the proper RAM since it will be slowed to match the processor speed.

Faster modules may not always run at faster speeds. When the motherboard or processor can't support the faster memory speed, the modules are clocked at the fastest speed that they can support. For example, a motherboard and CPU that support up to 2133 MHz memory can use 2400 MHz RAM but only run it up to 2133 Mhz.

it would probably be more stable yeah, but for finances at the moment, this will have to suffiece. i've requested to return the ram i have in favour of the lower speed ram, which ironically costs more! even though its same brand and model line.
