I had been using DVDVideoSoft You Tube downloader but they changed it and it doesn't really work anymore. Can anyone recommend a free you tube downloader, if there is one - thanks

Youtube have been for a while now, and currently, making it difficult to download stuff. Copyright gone crazy. About the only workaround is to wait till an application breaks due to youtube changes, and then wait till the download app author plays catchup with a new version.

Having said that most browsers offer addons for downloading youtube but they are very patchy as well.

I have found the best solution is to have several preferably portable download apps and when one goes down usually another will work for a while, long enough till another fails. Really is a game trying to keep up with the workings of youtube and the patience of download app authors.

Have a look at 4k video downloader https://www.4kdownload.com/products/product-videodownloader
Free youtube downloader (latest version works here today) https://www.dvdvideosoft.com/products/dvd/Free-YouTube-Download.htm
WinX https://www.winxdvd.com/youtube-downloader/

Thank you everyone. I tried winxdvd youtubedownloader - it works but I can't get it to download more than one video at a time. If I try to add a second video it deletes the download information for the first one. That makes downloading a few videos a long process - but it's better than not being able to download anything.

By the way, the dvdvideosoft "free" youtube downloader you listed isn't free anymore if you want to download a video in less than an hour or more. I found out only the version that you have to pay for works quickly, the way the free one used to work.

Unfortunately one of the common drawbacks of some free versions

Have never been able to download simultaneously with free youtube downloader but it queues stuff and does the job. 4kvideo will download multiple stuff.

The antvideo add on I linked you to, you can download multiple videos so long as you have each separate video open in another tab.
