hi please help, i moved house about a month ago and removed my hdd's in an attempt to protect them from damage, i have not put them back in pc and they do not show up at all, not even in disk management, if it was 1 hdd i would understand but only the ssd is showing which i left in the pc,
i am not very tec savvy so please dumb it down for me

i also have a old external maxtor, i have been trying to get it to work for years and now wonder if its the same problem, it gets the green light on the front and i have it connected to pc using usb but its not shown up too, i was hoping to get it to work as i am sure it will have our old photos on it
any help most welcome

To have the HDD's show up, you need to plug them back in, this is the opposite process of what you did to take them out.

There should be one or two cables that are being plugged in and a place where they either slide in or are screwed in.

Let's tackle this first and then move onto the external drive.

thanks for replying
they are all in there slots and i have plugged in both the cables to each hdd, and i have also tried the wires in differant configuration, but nothing,
i know i had pc before and i saw a fuse in side but can not see one on this pc just incase it was some thing simple like that :(

Do you have a model # for your specific computer? (i.e Dell Inspiron 5600, or HP EliteDesk 800)

If it's a custom built machine could please list the parts (including the PSU)

There should be one cable leading to the power supply (a little metal box in one of the corners of the case) and another leading to the motherboard (a large flat board with metallic lines and capacitors on it) please ensure the connections are secure one both ends.

hi when i turned off pc earlier it had a windows update, and just turned pc on now and both hdd are there and working :)
i just tried the maxtor external and still nothing showing, would love if i could get it working :(
it was a top of the line pc, from specialist pc a few years ago,
the maxtor conects using a usb and the other end is the small connector 2 before the c cable

Glad that's working! Sometimes things work themselves out, make sure to keep an eye on it in the event things were to work backwards.

Can you please take a picture of the drive and how it's plugged in.

Please include the model # and brand so I can find the information for your exact model.

hi sorry for late response been ill again, i got photo hope i can send it, had a good few years and not had it working for at least 3 years i would say.
thanks for help. photo uploaded plz be there

i can not see photo, can you ??

i know i am a real pain here, but my swann cctv 2tb hdd is playing up now too, i keep getting hdd error, but if i unplug it works for a bit, but after minutes or hours it stops working some times i get it working for about 8 hours and then error and it stops recording, after unplugging i have reformatted, and i have done this about 5 times now but its still not working, i emailed swann but they never reply, any idea's ?

How are you attaching the photo ? With the attach files att the bottom of the reply box?
How big is the photo you are trying to attach. It could be to large to upload
my swann cctv 2tb hdd is playing up now too, i keep getting hdd error

Sounds like time for a new HDD they do not last forever - easy to replace
You should look at a hdd made for cctv or nas as they are made to last longer

I'm with PeterOz, something is definitely going, I would double check with another computer first if that's possible.

Do you have another computer to test the drives on? If the issue is occurring on multiple drives it could indicate an issue with the computer itself.

hi photo 1 was 15mb and the other i tried to send was 9,65mb, i clicked attach files and i also tried the insert image tab too,
the hdd in the pc are working file now after the windows update, the maxtor is a external hdd, and the 2tb is in my cctv unit, only had for about 18 months i think, its since it got moved, i thought i had treated it with kid gloves :(
the good news is its now done about 24hrs in the cctv so fingers crossed

A pic should be a lot smaller
I have had brand new well known drives in 6 months
Time has nothing to do with it.

As for the maxtor if it is not working I would look at pulling it apart
and connecting it directly to the motherboard
Can you see a model number on the maxtor
