Logitec MX800 keyboard and mouse not waking pc from sleep

Hello clarkgriswold,

Windows shuts down certain hardware to save power and this may mean that the USB ports are not waking up when you tap a key or move the mouse, take a look at the guide here which shows you how to make sure that your USB ports remain active while the computer is idle.

Good info but unfortunately no luck with it.

Interestingly enough the FN key + the power button on the keyboard will let me manually put the pc in sleep mode. However, it will not awake it from sleep mode.

I read something about jumpers on the motherboard but I hope it's not the case.

I am assuming that you have a desktop PC, if yes, do you have or can you borrow a wired PS/2 type keyboard that you can try, this will help with pointing towards either a hardware or a software issue.

Not sure what you read but MB jumpers are not something that would normally have any affect on keyboard behaviour.

Did you try the troubleshooting steps in the Logitech mx800 user manual

PC problems can often be the most basic of things so it was worth you checking the Logitech troubleshooting steps if only to rule them out.

We need to wait on any feedback regarding the above for now.

Sorry guys, been out of pocket for a while. I plugged in an old USB keyboard and verified that it was working.

I manually put the pc into sleep mode and the hardwired USB keyboard WOULD NOT wake it up either.

The following from my reply #4;

It was not confirmed whether or not your computer was a desktop or a notebook so have no way of knowing what ports you have, most desktops do have them(but not all cheap motherboards though) however notebook type computers do not.

Can you post the brand and model name or number of your computer so we know what we are working with, thanks.

Understood, it's an Alienware Aurora R6.

Ah yes. An Alienware will not have a PS/2 port.

Did you make sure you followed the guide to allow the keyboard to wake the computer? Sometimes it's disabled and if not enabled, will cause the issues you are experiencing.

Follow this guide, method #3, to see if it fixes the issue at hand :)

I'll be in front of the pic shortly to give it a try and I'll report my findings. Thanks (y)

Do the Alienware units typically use cheap mother boards?

Yes, it seems the mouse and keyboard are enabled to allow waking.

Not always and you most certainly would not expect to find a cheap MB in an Alienware for the price that they cost, Dell though are one of the most common OEM brands to not have PS/2 ports on their MBs, silly imho as PS/2 ports are a godsend when troubleshooting USB port problems.

Will hold off for now until jmarket gets back to you regarding the Microsoft article.

Have you checked out the info suggested by plodr.

You can go ahead and take over @phillpower2 :)

Couple of suggestions clarkgriswold;

Restore the MBs default factory settings in the BIOS and do the following steps;

Download then run the Windows All in One Repair (free) from here, disregard the malware guidance but follow the other steps to the letter and in particular ensuring that you first create a new restore point and perform a proper Windows clean boot before running the repair, details for the clean boot here.
