Hello,

Hoping someone can help me with a consistent, but seemingly random, problem I've been struggling with for almost a year. While using the desktop I built to play games, often the game will crash and I see a LiveKernalEvent 141 event in the reliability report (details below). Often this locks up my PC until I fully reboot it. Some days this will happen within half an hour of playing, other days I can play all day with no issues. I haven't been able to identify any consistent factors to the crashes, they seem to occur independent of which game I'm playing or how taxing it is - Minecraft reacts the same as Divinity 2 or Hunt: Showdown on high settings. I thought it was heat related and so replaced my cooling system with no change, as well as installing a new M.2 SSD with a fresh Windows install. Oddly, the only thing that I've seen that seems to help is using the Radeon software's Tuning feature to Overclock the GPU. While this doesn't prevent crashes, it seems to lessen the frequency.

Error information:
Description
A problem with your hardware caused Windows to stop working correctly.

I've also published a Speccy snapshot here: http://speccy.piriform.com/results/rnUgwjbteDQ4BTsIPMDSPWt

I'd greatly appreciate any help or direction, as I've exhausted my own limited tech skills and Googling capability. I'm nearly to the point of just slowly replacing the remaining pieces until something sticks, but as I only just built it within the last 2 years, I'd really hate to dig back into that expense.

Thank you in advance for any insight you can offer!

Thank you for the time your putting in here!

I've done the above, haven't had much time to actually play to see the problem is resolved, but hopeful I'll get to test it out tonight. I did see the HDD was overfull, though I've had these issues in the past with more space. Dropped a few games and running closer to 70% now.

Reset your Hosts file, it isn't listed correctly under minitoolbox log.
  1. Click here to download RstHosts v2.0\
  2. Save the file to your desktop.
  3. Right Click and Run as Administrator.
  4. Click on Restaurer, then click OK at the prompt.
  5. This will restore the default host file.

Not sure if @Malnutrition mentioned driver easy

Yep, one of the first things I suggested, to remove it. :)

After the check disk, please check to see if your HDD is in good shape, as @PeterOz has suggested. I did see some errors which is what prompted me to suggest the chkdsk /f /r

Step 1 Hd Tune scan.

Download HD Tune and save the file.
Install HD Tune and restart it after installation.
Then go to the tab Error Scan , select the hard drive you want to check and press Start .
The check can be quite time consuming take depends on the size of the hard drive check.
Take a screen shot of the result and save it.
Upload the image here.
Do Not tick the quick scan!!

Step 2 Crystal Disk

Download and run CrystalDisk info standard edition from here
Run the program, grab any screenshots and attach to your next reply for us.

Thanks again, both of you!

@PeterOz - I followed your notes and shifted power settings. I had uninstalled Java and DriverEasy previously thanks to @Malnutrition. I confirmed that XMP is disabled on BIOS, and the CPU is not overclocked. I actually think when I first put the desktop together I had attempted to use XMP to clock my RAM up to it's advertised speed, and it caused major malfunctions until I disabled it...

Attached are the screenshots from CrystalDisk and HD Tuner. I also ran chkdsk as instructed, it seemed to take less than a minute but didn't give me any indications of repairs or errors. The HD is a fairly new replacement as I thought my previous HDD may have been the issue.

For what it's worth, I haven't had a crash since the first round of changes we did on Monday, though I haven't had a ton of time to try to recreate them. I'll keep monitoring and let you know ASAP if anything changes.

Can't say enough how much I appreciate you all, this has been a major headache for far too long, and just having the guidance to do something about it has been a major relief.

Sweet! Glad to be of service, tell your friends if the subject comes up, where they can get good free help for their computer. :)

Keep us updated.

@malnutrtion So for what it's worth, I've put some significant hours in over the past few days and haven't had a single crash, despite playing games that previously crashed and moving them to their highest settings... Holding my breath but I think maybe your genius has fixed it. I just made a donation to the forum as a thank you, but if there are other ways I can support the work you're doing (or you independently) please share... I hugely appreciate the time and effort you put in here.

Thanks again!

I don’t need any money. I do this simply for what you just posted. Knowing that I have helped someone is the reason I do this. 😀

If you could just share a link to the forum with your friends and family, that is all I ask in return, but the forum surely appreciates the donation.

Have a great day/night wherever you are in the world.

I’m marking this as solved. 👍
