Solved Linux Mint 17.3 64 bit ISO on USB

This isnt a problem, but if there,s a fix, that would be great. My main OS is Windows 10, but sometimes i like to stick that USB in, and get on Linux.
When i bootup each time, my desktop icon,s are always in a different place.
Sometimes 2 desktop icon,s are together, i see that and can separate them. Is there a fix to keep these icon,s in just one place?

I think i may have figured out why this happens. Weather there is a fix, i have no clue what to do.

When i boot up Linux Mint 17.3 i have an icon on the desktop, shaped like a CD that says ( Install Linux Mint ) i then right click and ( delete it ) then it,s gone. But when i go back to boot up Linux it,s always back each boot up , that seem,s to be the reason for my desktop icon,s are always mixed up.
It,s like the ( install icon ) is making the other icon,s to move out of the way HAHAHAHA.

I don't use Windows 10 but I do have this installed on either an XP or Win 7 computer in the house

You install it then take a picture of the desktop with the icons where you want them from within the program. When the desktop gets messed up, you run the program, select the date of the desktop position of icons and it restores everything to that location.

Iam a newbie with Linux Rustys, i will explain the best i can though. I hope this helps.

(1) I first formated my USB.
(2) Then i downloaded a program called ( Universal USB Installer-Easy As 1-2-3 by Pendrivelinux.com )
(3) I then picked ( Linux Mint 17.3 distro )
(4) Then i checked that box beside, where you select your distro that says ( Local ISO Selected )
And waited for it to download.
Rustys, i dont no if its uncompressed ISO. Its not installed on my computer, it,s only on my USB.

You did just fine Chuck. If it is loading it is defiantly uncompressed.

From the sounds of it you are using the Live Version. Which is the best way to test Linux (any flavor) with out having to install it.

Does your desktop look similar to this?

Chuck, the iso is uncompressed.
With Universal USB installer you can make a persistant space that will allow it to save any changes you make to the distro for next time you use it. That way you can add apps to it, and settings will be kept for next use, so your customization should stick. Remake the bootable drive and add persistance.

Iam kinda new with Linux but i think i no what you mean. The persistance sliding bar, i slid it all the way. Each time i bootup Linux everything i saved is saved. But desktop icons are always moved around. Thank,s Chuck

Right click on the Desktop and see if the check mark is next to Keep Aligned.
If it is not there put it in.
If there remove.
Reboot and see it that corrects it and also go back there and see if it kept the information.

What are you Resolution setting in Linux?
Click on the Menu
Scroll through the list and select Display

Hi Rustys,
(1) The res. is 1366x768 ( 16:9 )
(2) I right clicked on the desktop, up popped a menu ( keep aligned- it is checked )
(3) I did reboot a couple times, still the desktop icon,s wont stay as i put them.
Sometimes there,s 2 icon,s together. Last time i booted up, You Tube and gmail icon were together.

Hi Rustys, yes my desktop shows exactly like yours. Except i have ( gmail, you tube, duckduckgo search, tommy boy notes, this is my desktop icons. Thanks Chuck

Thank You Rustys, i no this sounds a little odd. It is to me. When you explained to me yesterday ( Tuesday ) how to get trash icon on the desktop, all my other desktop icon,s stay where i put them. I even rebooted 3 times. Icon,s dont move at all. Very strange. But ok now.
