I have an Acer Aspire 7 that randomly reboots. In the Event Viewer an event with ID 41 shows up every time it happens. The Windows memory test detects no errors. I initially had Windows 10, did a clean install after some time and another clean install to get Windows 11. The problem persisted. The frequency is completely random. It can be fine for a month or more, or it can happen twice a day. I don't know if it's been like this since I bought it because at first I didn't put too much focus on the fact that I had to login again. I know I'm dumb. The laptop is now a bit more than an year old and probably did this for the majority of this life. What I did to the laptop after a week of usage was adding a stick of RAM, disconnecting the battery before doing so. I'm 100% sure that it happens when plugged in, but I'm not sure if it happens when on battery, since I usually use it plugged in. Should I check anything or just remove the new RAM stick and RMA it? Any tips for troubleshooting? I'm finding it hard to come up with something because it doesn't reliably happen.

Is there anything that I can do to force this reboot to happen after I remove it? Or do I just have to wait and hope? Also, I went into the Event Viewer and noticed that sometimes the bugcheck code fot the 41 ID events is 0 and sometimes it's 159(0X9F). Does it mean something?

Are there some tools or different kind of tests that I could run to better narrow it down(other than removing the ram, which i will do)? Sorry, I'm really ignorant about hardware troubleshooting.

I think so. I got an error in the event viewer when I booted my laptop today. I think that it was because of my shutdown last night(that was completely normal by the way)? Yesterday I updated the BIOS to a version that claims stability improvements.

is the laptop under warranty still?
how many memory sticks are in it and if more than two, have you ran it with only one yet?

if it was mine, I would be resetting it back to factory defaults, reloading a fresh copy of Win10 then running it for a couple of weeks with no other software or updates installed other than the chipset drivers.
even keep it off the net. you want to see if it reboots with only the core essential stuff.
if it still does it then, then its hardware and somethings needs replacing.
with a laptop, that really only means the drive or the memory, as anything else is usually not cost justifiable.
so if you are going to reload Windows, might as well do it to a new drive and skin two cats at the same time!
after that, only replacing memory is left.

Yes, the notebook is still under warranty. My fear is that even if it's a hardware problem and I send it to rma they won't be able to reproduce the problem and they won't do anything. How does these things work? Would keeping the windows events be of any help? And no, I didn't try with a single stick, yet. I've been busy and didn't take the time to do so.

trying one RAM stick should be dead simple.
would be simpler if the memory ports had direct access via a back panel, but in this case, looks like you have to take off the entire back panel.
still easy, just a lot more screws!

but RMA it would be my recommendation.
if they can't replicate it, they should at least replace parts.

Ok, got it. Right now I'm trying with it to see if the bios updates at least stops the reboots(even though the errors after I shut down still pop up in the event viewer). I think that I know the steps that I have to take. Thank you.
