I installed an external DVD drive, as the internal DVD drive no longer works. VLC player continues to default to the D-Drive (internal). I need it to default to the E-Drive (external), so that I don't have to manually change it each time I use VLC with the DVD. And also sometimes VLC gets "confused" even when I change it manually and it hangs. I haven't found a setting for that in VLC to change the default DVD drive. How do I change the default drive for VLC?

VLC = 2.2.8
Win 7

have you tried updating VLC?
I'm still on 3.0.8 as I didn't care for the v4 GUI changes but maybe it'll work better for your needs.

Seeing your internal DVD drive no longer works why not physically disconnect it??

If VLC does not change its behavior uninstall and reinstall it, or better still try Pot Player, much better player.
