Horizontal lines roll down from top of screen

Has anyone had this problem? A horizontal line of multi-colors distortion occasionally rolls down from the top of my screen. It happens occasionally, and when it does, it does so repeatedly, so I can't use the computer while it does..

Hello

If you can get one, try another monitor for testing. .hopefully you have the external ports for that..
Thanks for the suggestion. I have an old desktop monitor and cord, but unfortunately, that cord connection isn't compatible with my much newer laptop's USB connection port.

Is the computer new enough to still be covered by any warranty.

What is the brand and model name or number of the notebook, the test suggested by veeg needs to be done so we need to know what video ports (not USB) the notebook has.

It's almost 5 years old, so it's not covered by the warranty. It's an HP Pavilion, model 17-g11.

Only finding the one using that information, the specs are here

You need to connect the notebook to an external screen that has a HDMI port, a TV will do.

Can I ask that you do not quote every reply as we have to read the full post to make sure nothing gets missed,, thanks.
