Hello all!

To make a pretty long story short. I have a much much older ASUS Rampage III Formula with a Intel Core i7 950. My system ran beautifully until not too long ago a couple of my ram sticks started acting up causing a triple beep on post leaving me with only 4 gigs of ram to run on. I ended up buying some DDR3 ram that matched all requirements from my manual that didn't end up working, booting with no post, even once I fully updated my bios and everything, and I had to return, luckily managed to get a refund.

Now on my second time around I've been doing extensive research trying extra extra hard to make sure the next set of memory I get work.

The next set of sticks I've done research on and seem really keen, which my local PC hardware store have are these Corsair CML8GX3M2A1600C9 as well as G.Skill 8GB (2x4G) F3-10666CL9D-8GBXL 1333Mhz RL RipjawsX and Kingston KVR13N9S8H/4.

pcpartpicker and pcspecs say they are compatible but I don't know how reliable that information is and I simply don't know enough to be certain. And I really want to make sure as they are difficult to return if at all. I can't really afford not to either (times are tough).

Any other ram suggestions are greatly appreciated, long as they work :D.

I've been stuck with my 4 gigs (2x KVR1333D3N9/2G) of ram for a very very long time. I would incredibly appreciate any information that anyone could help me with regarding my motherboard and memory in trying to help me pick out memory that is compatible. I've done a tonne of troubleshooting, research and checked the qualified vendor list and everything that you might think of but seeing as how its almost 10 years old those sticks no longer exist or are very hard to find.

In any case I would appreciate any information at all, doing it real hard with only 4 gigs of ram and not enough money to get a new system aha.

I did also come across a similar post from around 3 years ago or so but the OP ended up getting a new mobo so couldn't find any useful info.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post. :giggle:

Hello

Do you still need assistance?
Yes please! After much much research and even looking at neweggs reviews of the types of systems and hardware that bought it, I'm most definitely looking at the 2x4G) F3-10666CL9D-8GBXL 1333Mhz RL RipjawsX . Around 3 people from the reviews have said its worked on x58 platforms like mine, all the way from 2011 to 2019 so it looks very promising to assume it would work, it's even worked on a Asus Extreme II supposedly (with all 6 slots using the same stick) which is a generation older then my motherboard as well as LGA 775 motherboards, even super old crappy dell desktops aha. Looking at the reviews and the types of systems they've worked on I'd say those gskills are the way to go, however, I'm not sure if that's enough to go on. All though does look very promising.

What are your thoughts?

Thank you :)

P.S I went madman mode and went through all the reviews to find some piece of evidence aha.

I can't offer any hard core advice on what memory will work simply because,. at the end of the day, as you have discovered, even modules that are classed as compatible, still may not work.
this is even exacerbated when dealing with very old rigs and old gen components and architecture.

in my personal experience, I have found Kingston memory very reliable and compatible, so they would be my choice. if possible, I'd also take the rig into the store and get them to do it for you - that way if they don't work they can swap them for the other ones and keep doing that till a compatible bunch is found and because they do the work there is no issue with refunds.

Ladies and gentlemen! The guy at the pc store offered to refund the sticks if they didn't work, so I went ahead and bought them, long and behold....IT POSTED AND WORKED! IM SO HAPPY OMG, I ACTUALLY STARTED CRYING.

Thank you for your responses. I'm going to leave this here in case anyone else with the same mobo decides to go through the same ordeal.

Thanks again all. :)

Aha yea! I'm going to try putting my (2x KVR1333D3N9/2G) along side them for 12 gigs total, which was what I was initially at. They are both the exact same speeds, timings, voltage and latency, the only difference is the brand name. I'm suspecting it should work. I've seen mixed reviews on mixing ram with some saying its fine, other saying "if it works, it works".

What you guys have to say?

Worst case i just get another set of the g skills.
