Hello!

I've just started playing Destiny 2 again a week ago, and on my 1 month old pc.
I've been at random been getting crashes, this could be within 10 minutes of launching the game, all the way to 5 hours.
I've done multiple things to try to fix it, but with no help. I will list the steps I've taken as well as the specs on pc and dxdiag if that is something that would help.

-reinstalled destiny 3 times
-verified the integrity of game files
-ran DDU to clean all drivers and then reinstall all new latest drivers
-tried 4 different versions of graphics drivers
-changed graphics settings around ( shouldn't matter as I have 7900xtx )
-disabled all ingame overlays, Discord and Steam. as well as disabled game bar
-changed the speed of the ram from 5600MHz to 5200MHz

DxDiag - https://pastebin.com/i5yjKEx1

please note that I am only getting these crashes in Destiny 2, and have no issues in any other games at all.
when the game does crash I am getting an error message from AMD Adrenalin saying that it is a driver crash, but having ran DDU and reinstalled the latest driver multiple times I find this strange.
Would also probably be worth noting that when I crash both monitors freeze for a few seconds, then go black for a few seconds before it returns me to my desktop with the bungie and AMD Adrenalin error.
if anyone has any ideas I am open to try anything at this point!

Best regards
Rasmus Thorsteinsson

Let's try some easy stuff first, please not your Norton subscription key and uninstall Norton. Anti-virus are notorious for gumming up perfectly good systems.

Second, you have two different monitors plugged in, limit that to one so we aren't dealing with that variable. (More info in my generic response)

This is my laundry list, it's a good starting point for troubleshooting and should get you an idea what's going on:

1. Try running the following programs, also try to keep at least 25-30% of your disks as free space.

Run Disk Cleanup (check all the boxes) this will delete things such as your recycling bin, so make sure you don't have any files you want to keep.

Run Defragment and Optimize Drives, run this on your drives.

These will free up some space, but you may need to relocate/delete files to reach the suggested free space.

2. Disable any overclocking or changes to power/performance settings

Undo any overclocking you may have done (if any)

Settings > System > Power and sleep > Additional power settings
Make sure your power plan is set to balanced, high performance/ultimate performance is only beneficial on gaming laptops where it needs that extra boost.

3. Check for Operating System Corruption

Right click on the Windows logo in the bottom left and select Windows Powershell (Admin)
Run these three commands separately:

sfc /scannow

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

These will take a while to run, do not close out of Powershell while they are running, if one fails then move onto the next and then loop back around.

Note: It doesn't hurt to make a system backup before you make all these changes, save any important files of folders. While these changes shouldn't cause any issues, better to be safe than sorry.

4. Unplug unnecessary devices.

If you have a gamepad, extra monitor, external hard drive/flash drive, or anything that is not essential to using the computer plugged in, unplug it.

Once you have completed all of these tasks, restart it (using the restart option in the power menu) and re-test.

Hi Pyro, I've done all of this now, will go into a session and see what happens, could be anywhere between 10 minutes and 5 hours, the crashes are very random.
so it might be a few hours until you get a response from me again. my D drive is 100% free, while my C drive is 75% free so disk space shouldn't be an issue, but did what you asked, even though it did sadden me to uninstall Norton

Run DDU and download a fresh installer executable from here.

An important note: You MUST download the driver executable and disconnect your computer from the internet before running DDU, otherwise Windows will automatically download drivers (which you don't want).

Once you have ran DDU in safe mode, boot up into a normal Windows session (ensuring that you aren't connected to the internet for even a moment) and run the installer.

Restart your computer from the power menu and see if this helps.

Hi Pyro,

Did everything you asked, but I also went into bios and put it to default settings, as someone from AMD also responded and asked me doing so. but I just crashed again unfortunately

Operating System
Windows 11 Home 64-bit
Computer type: Virtual
Installation Date: 7/18/2023 3:22:03 PM

Windows is shown to be a recent install, problem is that the system drivers were not installed immediately afterwards, see my canned info below;

Once Windows has been clean installed you must then install first the MBs chipset drivers, then the storage/SATA drivers and third the graphics drivers, the drivers can either come from a disk provided by the motherboard manufacturer or downloaded from their site and saved to a flash drive etc, this is a must and Windows should not be allowed to check for updates before it has been done as more often than not Windows installs the wrong drivers or in the incorrect order and this can cause all sorts of problems.

The pic in your reply #8 says crash or loss of device, this could be down to your PSU being borderline output wise, ASUS recommend between 850W and 1200W for their RX 7900 XTX range of cards, allowing for the extra screen, SSD and audio devices I would have gone no lower than 1000W.

Side note, I like ASUS MBs but will not have Armoury Crate anywhere near my hardware.

I understand that maybe the PSU was just about, but I've spoken with the company I bought the pc from, whom also built the pc before they shipped it, and they said 850W was enough and shouldn't be what's causing issues. I've also played much more demanding games than Destiny 2 without any problems at all, and I am also playing with all graphics on low when I do play destiny 2, which is why Im very confused.

what would I have to do to make sure everything is installed in the correct order?

Im guessing from your side note you'd recommend me uninstalling Armoury Crate, would you happen to know of a program that controls RGB and checks for drivers instead of it?

appreciate your response!

Difference is that we are advising you for free whereas the place from where you made the purchase provided their services for a fee, short version, we stand to gain nothing but you have a lot to lose if you do not take onboard our free advice, see attachment below which shows what ASUS advise as a minimum and without any overclocking, better still go here and check for yourself.

I would be presenting this information to the merchant that sold you the PC, the PSU ain't fit for purpose.

You could leave as is until you make your mind up about the PSU.

Before anything else you need to correct the PSU shortfall, RGB is not my thing but there are to my knowledge programs out there that allow RGB control without all the bloatware that OEMs bundle with their crapware.

Fwiw, Fancy RGB lighting also draws power from the PSU.

if you don't mind me asking. I spoke with retailer and they were willing to take pc in to have a look at it, however they obviously said it would be easier with me buying a new PSU and putting it in myself. they did also say that I could use the cables that are currently in the pc and wouldn't have to rewire everything. seeing as Im not very comfertable rewiring everything, I figured I'd ask you if just using the current cables is safe on a new psu. if so I'll just order a new one right away

and is there any brands I should stay away from? or should I just upgrade my corsair from 850 to 1000 / 1200?

"Corsair RMe Series RM1000e PSU

ATX12V v2.4, 80 PLUS Gold, Fully Modular"

looks similar to the one I have, just more powerful. 1200W was not in stock atm

The merchant is responsible here not you, what if it transpires that the GPU has been damaged by using too weak a PSU, if you start swapping parts yourself you void any warranty that you may have, you have been provided with 100% proof that your PC shipped with a PSU that did not meet the minimum requirements stipulated by ASUS so whoever selected and/or fitted the PSU is the one liable.

Glad to hear it but will leave your thread open for a couple of days just in case, your hardware should be playing Destiny 2 with ease and the fact that it isn`t means one of two things, the weak PSU or a weak Broadband connection are the only two items here that would be affected by you capping the FPS.

appreciate it, still haven't had any issues. from my understanding from the threads I've read is that 7900 xtx itself is lacking some drivers for destiny 2 specifically and multiple other people had the same problem, didn't matter which brand, just that it was 7900 xtx. will let you know if I have any further problems and then look into changing the PSU. just found it very strange I ran very much more demanding games without problems, but when it came to Destiny 2 I was having problems

again, I appreciate all the help I've been getting in the matter! :D
