Custom Laptop

I'm working on building a laptop that's just a screen and a keyboard & mouse. (No hardware on the inside other than that).
The monitor I'm looking for needs to have at least one HDMI input and to be able to run off of a battery. I'm more knowledgeable on the software rather than the hardware side of things and am wondering what kind of monitor I would need to run off of a battery effectively, I'm looking at getting 4-8 hours of runtime from the monitor. I'm hoping I can get 60 Hz refresh+ on the monitor and it to be 12"-16".
I'll be building the case and getting a custom battery made for the unit but the battery can only be as big as where the guts of the laptop would be. I have a 3D model made based off of a 15.7" portable monitor ( https://www.google.com/shopping/pro...LKq-vlHX-mMuo2R-qLkv8xNCiCKjzlX8xYaAupn8P8HAQ )

So my questions are; (1) what kind of monitor should I be looking for; is the one I have listed sufficient. And (2) is there already a laptop out there that I could gut and rewire easily to accomplish this? Thanks.

Hi Deacantis and welcome to PCHF :)

I'm going to summon @Madmatt2006 and @Evan Omo to assist you. They both have experience building laptops from scratch. :)

I've never personally built one, and when disassembling them, I've found that the monitors are proprietary and linked to the battery as a all-in-one piece.
Thanks for that info, I didn't know that! I guess I'll be building one from scratch. I work with plastics so a custom case won't be hard, just knowing what type of monitor I'll need to use and what the battery specs are going to need to look like then!

@vger Not currently. I'm still trying to figure out if the monitor I have posted is a good monitor that would run off of a small battery (like a laptop battery) for an effective amount of time. I'll probably be buying either the monitor or the connection cord this weekend since I don't make enough to buy both. I'll post updates as they happen, money's my primary issue.

@yger This is based off of the 15" monitor. It's crummy and not completed yet but it's just a conceptual.

Well I got a Samsung monitor. It didn't say that it was or wasn't able to run off of DC power so I'm not sure if it will work. I got a keyboard mouse combo so I'm currently trying to figure out how to use the monitor as a laptop monitor (hinging it etc).

You could, all that depends on what kind of ports you have on your laptop.. I have an old lap top that i use that way for streaming.. Thanks for the update.

Well I honestly don't know the first thing about soldering or any kind of electrical stuff like that so I just bought a 22" Samsung monitor. I'm probably going to get a sheet of black Plexiglas to use as the encasement. I'm planning on taking the monitor out of the "shell" but right now I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to create the joint between the base and the monitor. (The part that folds in the back of laptops)

The other issue I'm running into is the "button" (power, input, menu) is all in one knob. It's on the back of the monitor so I'm going to have to see if I can replace this or move it somewhere out of the way while maintaining functionality.

As with all my projects, the first one is probably going to look horrible but will work.

I'm hoping to get something done on it next week/two weeks from now. I'm going to be ordering the black or white Plexi this weekend. I've got some other stuff on my plate as I said but I'm trying to get around to it.
