CPU fault?

So today I tried to swap cpus just for fun... and now the it won’t boot.

I attempted to place a i5 into a Asus motherbored that holds a Pentium. After I found it didn’t fit I put the pentium back into the pc now it won’t turn on, everything starts expect there’s no start beep and there’s no signal on the screen. Any fix or have i messed it up?

Ouch - sounds like you may have messed things up.
how much 'force' did you try when putting in the CPU?

your Pentium CPU could have been a Socket 478 or 1156 (or others) and the i5 was probably a 1150 or 1151 - in other words (as you have discovered) the CPU is socket dependant on the motherboard.

if you didn't bend any pins, and have put the old CPU back in properly (can only orientate one way, so you should have), the PC should start and give you a beep. even if you didn't plug the heatsink back in and didn't replace the thermal paste, the PC would still boot.

another possibility is, during all the hands-on, movement of cables etc, dust can get dislodged or parts lose connection so remove the memory chips and video card (if there is one), wipe their contacts and the slot they go in with a brush and reseat them and try again.

I haven’t used any force when placing back in ad can’t see in damage to pins:/ Rather confused tbh computers aren’t my thing just been messing about during the quarantine
