Let me start of with saying with that i've build multiple systems in the past, all without a single failure so it's not a case of complete cluelessness.
Nephew's pc had a faulty mobo, which we decided to replace with a MSI B550 Gen 3, with this we also purchased ryzen 5 5600G and 2 strips of 16gb kingston ddr4-3200.
Stuff arived, build the mobo into the case, cpu put in, cooler installed and 1 stick of ram. Bare power cables connected (the 24 pins and the 8 pin cable), nothing else, no disks yet nor gpu.
Now the moment I press the power button on the front of the case, the psu will "click" on for what is perhaps 1/4 of a second and then it turns off again (as if it detected a short, and instantly shut down). I say this because I have seen similar behaviour from a psu in the past for which this was an issue.
I plug out his psu, grab one of my spare psu's, plug it in, the new system instantly boots fine, no issues.
I plug in his psu again, same problem as before, system shuts after a quarter of a second after powering it on.
Next I plug his psu into my little test bench mobo (An old socket 1150), and voila, it all boots up perfectly fine, even when trying to put on more load onto his psu by using a GPU.
I plug his psu back into the new motherboard we ordered, and nope, it just wont power on, except that split second.
I assume that the psu is just being a and is somewhat faulty, but might perhaps works on certain mobo's despite it's fault.
Or is there something else I may be missing here? Any input is welcome, i'm at a total loss atm.
