Solved Can't connect to wifi after updating Windows 10

Ok so here's my situation.

I update Windows last night when going to bed. This morning I can't connect to my wifi. These may not be linked, it could be a coincidence?

So the wifi is working. It's picking up the neighbour's wifi and other connections and I can hotspot my phone to it. The strange thing is, everything other devices can find the wifi. It's just the computer that can't find mine.

I've tried lots of things, updating drivers, reset network. In a despite attempt I even reset windows. Nothing helped.

Now you might go, maybe reset the router? It's hard to explain but I live under a holiday house that the owner rents to tourists and I pay a bit extra to use his wifi cause I can't get the net on here because he has it on. So trying to reset it will be kind of a headache involving contacting the real estate. Plus it seems to be working since my other devices can see it.

So before I contact them and go through that drama, I was hoping that someone might know why my computer can't specifically find my wifi connection when everything else can.

So other can assist let get a speccy report.

Do not forget to post the make and model of the PSU if this is a desktop.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

Hey mate. To answer your questions. I reset the network from the Network and Internet menu. Or if you meant Windows, I reset it from the restore menu.

I also actually turned off the power to the whole place so I could easily restart the modem and router and It didn't help. I uninstalled all updates, still didn't help.

The PSU is SilverStone Strider ST65F-PB 650W 80 Plus Bronze Fully Modular Power Supply

Yet ever other device that you have sees the WiFi listed correct?

Disconnect the Dongle then reconnect see if that helps. May have to remove the configuration for the Dongle form the system and even device manager then reconnect it.

Looks like the Dongle is making a connection to some network.

Yeah every other one can find. yeah I disconnected the dongle completely uninstalled it. Still nothing. At the point I had it hotspotted to my phone.

People are suggesting that maybe I have been unintentally blocked for them router maybe?

That is a possibility for that you will need to check with them.

Yet if you were connected to it before then why are you not connecting to it now?

Do you see it on the list of available connection on the affected system?

Create a new user account on the system and see if the issue persists under the new user.

Hey again mate.

Yeah, its so odd. It just doesn't appear in available networks anymore, like it doesn't exist yet everything else can find it. I created a new account and it's still the same.

Literally at a loss as to whats going on. Might even buy a new wifi dongle to see if that helps.

Still haven't heard from the owner...

Download adwarecleaner
Save it to the desktop run as admin.
Go to setting tab and make sure these are all on.

Turn on the following.

Delete IFEO Keys.
Delete Tracing Keys.
Delete Prefetch Files.
Reset Proxy.
Reset Chrome Policies.
Reset TCP/IP
Reset Hosts Files.
Reset Winsock
Reset IE Policies
Reset IPsec
Reset firewall.

Now go back to the dashboard, make a scan then when complete make certain everything is ticked.
Then click on Clean.
Then your machine should reboot.
Check the issue after the machine restarts.

If that fails.
Download and transfer Smart Fix to the machine.
Save it to the desktop.
Right click run as admin.
Click on Perform full recovery of network settings and restart the computer.
Click on start.

List Devices (Only Problems)
List Users, Partitions and Memory size

So this mini toolbox log is when you are connected via your phone? And is that phone connected to the WiFi?

We can try and use the MAC address of the phone if that’s the case.

If that fails....
Disable ipv6

Then go into device manager and make sure everything network related is enabled.

Then use geek uninstaller force mode to remove surf shark vpn.



Reboot the machine e and check the connection.

Hey man. sorry. Didn't see your replies. So just to be clear, when my phone is connected to the computer, I am using my data. my phone isnt connected to the house wifi. Actually anytime I've tried to hotspot my phone to the computer using the wifi instead of data, even my phone wont appear on my computer. It's like the dongle just wants nothing to do with that wifi lol. (Now I totally don't know what I'm talking about here lol) but does that mean then mean that that's the mac address (D0-37-45-73-AA-A5) of the Wifi adapter, not my phone? Anyhow I tried changing Mac address but I always get this message (see pic). Actually a friend suggested using this program already. But I always get this error. I'm assuming it means the first part of the address? But it still comes up even if it is an address starting with 02. Not sure if that means anything significant.

Is there another wireless usb you could use to see if it’s the issue?

Is there another computer that connects you could grab the MAC address from?

Have you checked the device manager?

What is the exact make and model of your computer? As well as the dongle.


Download Unknown Device Identifier v9.00
  • Run it.
  • Allow it to complete.
  • Hit File >>Save
  • The default name will be DeviceList
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Open DeviceList.txt copy contents.
  • Attach it here.

Hey again. I'm actually going to buy a new wifi adapter today. Hoping it fixes it. There isn't another computer here, but I did try and use the mac address from my Ipad but I got that same "02" error I have always got.

I had a friend make the computer so I'm not sure make. (I'm assuming everything you need will be in the log but if I can get you any more info, let me know.)
The wifi adapter is: TP-Link TL-WN821N 300Mbps Wireless N USB Adapter

I checked the Device Manager and everything is enabled. This might not be anything but I found something interesting. For the wifi adapter, in properties, in the events tab, in information, it says "Device USB\VID_2357&PID_0107\00e04c000001 requires further installation." I clicked view all events and it shows an error. Not show what it means but it may be something (see pics)

At this point I'd just wait to see if the new device solves the issue, other than just opening device manager and uninstalling the dongle driver, then rebooting the machine and allowing windows to reinstall it....

So tiny update that wont help but its something. So I went to get a new wifi dongle today but they didn't have any (live in a little town). I have to wait to Wednesday. BUT when I woke up this morning, it was working!!!! Don't know why but it was. Anyway I left to go into town. I put the computer to sleep cause I was afraid to turn it off lol. But when I came back home it wasn't working again... Don't know why or what going on, but there's some news in this ongoing drama.
