Solved Brand New PC, Brand new Monitor, No Display Signal

Hi all,

I bought an HP Pavilion and an LG Monitor over the last few days. The computer turns on, I see the lights and hear the fan(s). The monitor turns on but says that it’s not receiving a signal and goes to sleep. I brought the entire setup (same HDMI cable and power cables) to Best Buy and it worked correctly. I brought it back home, but I can’t get it to work in any room of my apartment with any power outlet.

I have tried two different power strips, one old and one brand new, and I have tried straight into the wall outlets.

I am beyond stumped. I am likely going to see if Best Buy can send someone out, maybe with a UPS, but I’m looking for any suggestions or ideas in the meantime.

Where are you connecting the monitor to?

1. is the onboard
2. is the display card

I also tried plugging it in to an outlet outside of my apartment in the breezeway. It started up just fine, but it still doesn’t work in my apartment. This has to be an issue with the outlets in my apartment.

I have contacted my maintenance team but they probably think I’m crazy because the complaint does sound kind of crazy.

Has anyone run into or heard of a similar situation? If so, what are some potential solutions?

Here’s a pic of it in the breezeway working just fine.

Not every single socket, but I’ve tried several sockets in every room, including the kitchen and an outlet in my living room that I know puts out enough power for a guitar amp.

Can I just make sure that you are connecting a keyboard to the PC before powering up, the power on self test will most often fail if you don`t hook one up.

If it worked when connected to the socket where the amp is but not at the socket where you want the PC set up you could suspect that the two sockets were on two seperate circuits but being that it does not work when connected to the amp socket would seemingly rule that possibility out.

Question if I may, your thread title says that the PC is brand new, can I ask what the brand and model name or number the PC is, reason I ask is because it has a now obsolete VGA socket and these were superseded by DVI ports way back in 1999 suggesting that the PC unless its been kept in storage could not be brand new, this introduces the possibility of a loose internal connection or memory card as possibly causing this.

Yeah, there’s a keyboard hooked up.

I’ve actually bought two computers in the last week because I thought the first one was defective due to these issues and it being a refurbished computer. The second is definitely brand new.

1. HP ProDesk 600

2. HP - Pavilion Desktop - AMD Ryzen 7 - 16GB Memory - 1TB SSD - Natural Silver

Lack of keyboard looks to be ruled out then.

So the issue has happened with more than the one PC.

2. HP - Pavilion Desktop - AMD Ryzen 7 - 16GB Memory - 1TB SSD - Natural Silver

Is this the PC that you are getting no video from, if yes, we need the exact model details so that we can check the specs, there have been many different variants over the years and if you Google HP - Pavilion you get this

It definitely has something to do with the power source. I tried yet another power strip, and it’s finally working. For some reason, the computer didn’t like power straight from the wall or the other two power strips I tried.
