Not even a recovery disk helps. System Restore won't run. Reset won't run. Won't let me boot into Safe Mode. CHEKDSK ran successfully form recovery disc command prompt. scannow won't run, says it needs Windows Protection, which can only be run through using Run. Cannot boot in to use Run. Other PC is Windows 8. It won't open Media Creation Tool, so that I can burn the iso file.

Thank you.

With this tool you do not need to burn the .iso

Hi, thanks. I went into BIOS to make "Removable Device" the 1st boot. Saved and exited. Shut down. Started again. Nothing. Still auto repair. Maybe I did something incorrectly.

Note THIS WILL DELETE ALL DATA ON YOUR DRIVE.
Reinstall Win 10 Fresh Install
If yo need to recover data first let me know.

Make sure you only have the one (1) drive you want to install windows on connected.

Download the win 10 tool run it to recreate the flash drive – Must be minimum 8GB

Watch this video
How To Install Windows 10 From USB - YouTube

In the video at 2:35 Where to install Windows. Highlight each partition and delete.

Then install on the unallocated space.

In the video at 2:54 you will notice it restarts the computer.
When you are doing this and you get to that point Remove the usb stick whilst it is restarting.
Also if you want to setup a local account instead of logging in with a Microsoft account
Turn off your wireless network and or remove the network cable.
This point is 3.32 in the video - Choose I don't have internet.
If you want to log in with a Microsoft account then leave the network as is.

Before doing any install, it is a good idea to go to the support page for your system. Download the drivers you are going to need i.e. chipset, sound, video, wireless, etc. Whilst Win10 has a lot of native drivers, Microsoft drivers are designed for ease of use and are NOT designed for any type of performance. Store these drivers on another usb or you can even just make a folder on your install usb when you are finished making the install usb. Copy the drivers into that folder.

When you are finished with the Windows install, then install your drivers.

  • Chipset or Motherboard
  • Sata or hard drive
  • Video adapter
  • Network interface card (NIC)
  • Audio
  • Touchpad
  • Any other hardware drivers needed for your particular model.
Reboot after installing the drivers

I have a fix. I have ordered a crowbar from Harbor Freight. Right out of the box a few years ago, this Acer piece of garbage has harassed me for the last time. I will take it and the crowbar out to the dumpster and beat the crap out of it. I may record the event and share.

I suggest you go here
Download the win 10 tool run it to recreate the flash drive – Must be minimum 8GB
https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-download/windows10
It also as the instructions on how to create the drive.
If you cannot create the USB on windows 8 post back the error message you get.

If you can boot from the usb at the install screen choose the option to REPAIR.

I don't have the required 8 GB flash drive.
It Must be a minimum of 8GB or it will not work.
You can use larger than 8GB BUT not smaller.
So step 1) is to buy or borrow an 8GB or larger flash drive.
If you cannot afford to buy one or borrow one then we are at a stand still.

Step 2) To fix that error message you have to edit the registry on the Windows 8 machine.
It is a simple enough step. However, it can be a daunting process.
Also making changes to the registry can harm the computer if mistakes are made.
That is why we would need to backup the registry first.

Do you have a friend or neighbour or relative with a windows 10 computer that could make the usb for you.

I do not know what country you are in. If USA something like this will work.

Hello and thank you. I downloaded the iso directly (by disguising the browser). I purchased a 64 GB flash. When I try drag and drop the iso into the flash, I get a prompt saying the iso "is too large for the destination..."

Hello again, please disregard previous. I reformatted to NTFS and the iso copied to the flash. Luckily Amazon delivered it same day and it was just $1 more than the 32 GB.

However, after choosing "removable device" in BIOS nothing happens. Could it be, the flash isn't recognized because I formatted it on my Windows 8 PC?

Thank you.
