Audio Input is no more than 6%

After upgrading to windows 11 my audio input shows no more than 6% in audio tests. I've tried multiple windows enhancements, and well as different devices and recording software I have no idea how to fix this. I use an msi gf75 laptop

so you have tried an external mic, and right clicked on the volume icon in the system tray, clicked Open Sound Settings, in the Input section, changed the device to your external mic, and clicked Manage Sounds Devices?
also try going to Control Panel, Sound, Recording tab and going to the boost section.

I have tried all of these, that's why I'm so stumped. I've also gone to device manager and uninstalled and reinstalled my recording devices but no luck. The boost doesnt seem to have an effect.

what make/model is the external mic?
and is it USB or 3.5mm cable connected?
is this a laptop or desktop?

just in case this external mic is faulty, do you have another one you could try, even a headset unit?

its a laptop, the device I need to use is a 3.5mm but even the mic array on it is getting the same amount of sound. No matter the device or plug in method it seems to be almost muted. I've tried multiple devices and there doesnt seem to be any change

just in case all the devices you have tried are faulty (yeah, I know!) have you tried them on another PC?
are any of the other devices USB?
is the laptop 3.5mm jack a 3 pole (headphone) or 4 pole jack (headset)?
and how many poles is the mic you are using?

I have tried other pcs, I do have a usb device but its the same. the mic input jack is for 3 pole. I'm at the point where I'm going to reset and see if that fixes anything I need to be able to speak for school lmao

I learned about it from trying to talk in my online class, Ive done online mic tests that playback as well as recording myself with the camera software that comes with windows, my voice is barely audible what i try. I reset my PC about 30 min ago and the issue is still there. It is all mics, including the laptop mic array

Just to update it seems my windows key and fn key switched on their own. so I'm thinking I have problems beyond what I first thought. Is there anything I can do before I just send it in to get repaired?

if it is still under warranty, yeah, off to the repair shop sounds good.

what sort of reset did you do - an over the top repair of Windows keeping your files and settings, or a keep nothing reset?
personally, if it was mine, I'd try a completely fresh install.
get the Windows Media Creation Tool, us it to make a bootable USB stick image, then boot the PC from that stick, wiping all partitions, and lettings Windows reinstall from scratch. but that's just me! (y)
