Asus 970 Pro Gaming/Aura "Clear RTC" cap fell out

I'm building a beginner pc for a friend and it has an ASUS 970 Pro Gaming/Aura installed. The owners manual says that if the "Clear RTC" cap, which is for clearing the Real Time Clock RAM in CMOS, is removed from its default position then it will cause system boot failure. While threading a cable through the case, you guessed it, the cap fell out. I put it back, but now the pc won't post and the led light on the motherboard says these a vga issue. The manual tells me this issue is because the system setup information has now been erased but doesn't tell me if or how I can fix it.

Remove the power cord and press the on button a couple of times to discharge residual power.
Touch some metal to earth yourself.
Check that you have the cap on pins 1&2. Page 1-15 in the manual.
If the cap is on pins 1&2 remove the cmos battery for at least 10mins.
Reinsert the battery.
Test
