How to Enable Drag and Drop in Windows


Enabling drag and drop functionality in Windows can sometimes require modifying the system registry. Follow these steps carefully to make the necessary changes:

Open the Registry Editor

  • Press windows key on your keyboard to open the start menu search box.
  • Type regedit and right click run as administrator This will open the Registry Editor.
  • In the Registry Editor, use the left-hand pane to navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System



Modify the EnableLUA Value

  • Once you are in the System folder, look for a key named EnableLUA.
  • Right-click on EnableLUA and select Modify.
  • Change the value data from 1 to 0.
  • Click OK to save your changes.
Or you can simply open elevated command prompt and copy and paste:
reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System" /v EnableLUA /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

Hit enter.

Reboot Your Computer

  • Close the Registry Editor.
  • Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
By following these steps, you should be able to enable drag and drop functionality in Windows by modifying the specific registry key.
