We were on a cruise last fall. One of the projects they set up for the kids was to create a small "play" for them to participate in. Probably about 20 minutes. Anyway, I recorded the play on my cell phone like all the other parents. I forgot about it until a few days ago, so I went into my ICLOUD, and downloaded the small video. It played without a problem on my computer. Then I decided to use my NERO BURNING ROM 10, to burn the video to a DVD. Yes, I still have them. so stop laughing. The DVD video played on my computer without a problem. However when I put the DVD in my DVD / CD player, it did not play. I got some message that I do not remember. Then I remembered that in the past when I would record a TV show to a DVD, I would have to FINALIZE the disc first. I found the instructions to FINALIZE the disc. But when I got to the last option, I could see there was one to FINALIZE, but it was greyed out, and I could not select it. Any suggestions on what I forgot, or must still do ?? Many thanks. I was able to copy the small video to a jump drive, and the TV has a USB port, and the video did play on the TV using the USB port, but I would rather have a video on a DVD with my other collection. Thanks, Mike

Have you tried doing the whole process again, from copying to finalising all in the one go.
My guess, and a guess is all it is, maybe ejecting and re-inserting didn't go well with the whole process.

I'm pretty sure that guess haven't got legs as I seem to recall doing a finalise after the initial burn and subsequent burns, back in the day.

Another idea, what sort of DVD does the TV accept?
Maybe it doesn't like Dual Layer, or ReWriteable?
Or maybe it's as simple as a scratch on the DVD that the PC laser can handle but the TV laser can't.
Does the TV laser need a clean?

And after all that, gather up your DVD collection, take them outside and dig a whole for immediate burial.
Then jump on the train to the 21st centaury and cloud storage, and digital content, and access on any device! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

To burn a DVD for playback on a TV, ensure your video files are in MPEG-2 format (H.262 codec) and use a DVD authoring software to create a DVD directory structure compatible with home DVD players

Thanks for the reply Bruce. Some additional info. I downloaded the video from my ICLOUD account, to my computer as I said. It does play on the computer fine. Then I used my computer and NERO BURNING ROM 10 to burn the video to a DVD. If I then place the DVD in my DVD reader in my computer it also plays that way. I also have a stand alone DVD / CD player / writer attached to my TV. I guess I left that part out. If I put the DVD in that unit, it does not play, and I get some error message. I then go through the steps to FINALIZE using that DVD / CD recorder, as I had done in the past. Just a note---when the CLOUD is hacked and deleted, I will still have my hard copies. ha ha

Thanks PeterOz, not sure how to do that. Maybe I need to chose a different option when using NERO to burn the disc. I choose the first one that says something like DVD, ISO or something. But again, if the disc plays in the DVD recorder in my computer, why not in the stand alone unit connected to the TV.

Welcome to technology.
What format is the file is it MP3, MP4, MKV etc.

Your standalone might not be able to read i.e MP4 and you may have to convert the file to one the standalone can understand.

Are you using a pc or a mac?
If pc and you can't see the type of file right click on the video and left click on properties
It will show you the type of file. e.g Mp4, MKV
If mac use the command + i for the file type.

What is the make and model of the TV attached DVD player?

I'm surrounded by Neanderthals!

LP's were scratchy, cassettes were invented.
Cassettes had low quality, CD's were invented.
CD's had low capacity, DVD's were invented.
DVD's wouldn't work on all devices for any discernable reason - USB's were invented.
Trend setters wanted music on demand, device independent - Welcome to today.

But seriously - what is the error message when you tried to play it in the DVD unit?

The file in File Explorer is labeled as a MP4. As I said at one point, when I open up Nero Burning Rom 10, and choose DVD vs. CD I have nine choices. I always choose the top one which is labeled DVD-ROM (ISO). I was able to find the file on my computer and burn it to a disc ( yesterday) . I went back into Nero and was going to try another option, but nothing works now. I can't even duplicate what I did before. If I choose the top one, DVD-ROM (ISO) I can't find that video on my computer anymore using Nero. The file is still there, because if I close NERO and look for the file in File Explorer, I can find it, and it still plays normal. Maybe I will try again tomorrow. But at least I have the video on a USB drive that does play on the TV. Thanks for all the help. Mike

What about this

With the make and model of the DVD player I can research better
It is a JVC DVD Video Recorder, Model DR-MV150B. And the error message was UNKNOWN DISC, PLEASE CHECK DISC AGAIN, then the machine ejected the disc.

You need to convert to a format your DVD can play. Mpeg and AVi should work
Depending on the recording software & the finalization, some recorded discs (CD-R/RW or DVD±R/RW)may not be playable.
Page 4 http://resources.jvc.com/Resources/00/01/15/LVT2016-001B.pdf
Also on that page -Regional code

Also it might be best to convert MP4 to AVi . Avi should work.

Page 29 DivX file requirement Available resolution size: 720x576 (W x H) pixel DivX file extensions: “.avi”, “.divx”Playable DivX subtitle: “.smi”, “.srt”,

To convert MP4 to AVi you can use a program like VLC media player

CLICK ON ME

To Convert Mp4 to Avi I use a program called Freemake Video Converter - Old Version 2.3.4.2 it works well.

OK PeterOz. I used VLC to convert two of those video files from MP4 to AVI per the instructions. Now I am having trouble with my Nero Burning Rom 10. I open up Nero as I have done many times in the past, and then I go look for the file I want. I find the folder, and the files I have inside, but Nero does not recognize them. I know they are still there because I can see them in File Explorer. I did notice that when I have Nero open, there is a statement on the lower right with many examples. The default one to open is 'COMPATIBLE FILES" or something like that. If I change that to ALL files, I then see all the files in the folder, including the two AVI files I converted. BUT, I can not drag anything over to burn. Still trying to figure out how I was able to burn the original MP4 files to a DVD disc two days ago. I even removed Nero burning Ron from the computer, and reinstalled it. This is making me even more Neanderthals that Bruce said earlier.

Just some out of the box thinking here....

Have you tried right clicking the stuff you want to burn, and select Send To... and select your DVD-RW unit.
It's been a while, but from memory, Windows (since Win7 I think) can burn CDs/DVDs natively.

Do you simply want to burn your files to a DVD and play them on the TV, and does the TV only play DVD's that are in the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS format?

Yes windows does, I can't remember if it does only data.

does the TV only play DVD's that are in the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS format?
From the manual

Hi Bruce, I thought of that last evening. I burned the original MP4 files to a disc using the Windows 11 feature as you mentioned, and I also burned that AVI file I converted, to another DVD using the Windows feature. This morning I tried each of the DVD's in the JVC player. No difference. I still get that message UNKNOWN DISC, PLEASE CHECK DISC AGAIN. I have done this hundreds of times before. I would take videos when we were on vacation using my old CAMCORDER. I would come home, copy the videos to my computer, and then burn them to a DVD so I could watch them whenever I wanted on TV. The only thing different this time is I started with a video I had taken on my cell phone, that went to the ICLOUD. Well at least I have the video on a USB jump drive that I can watch on the TV. Maybe if I get ambitious some time, I will dig out the old CAMCORDER, and make another video. Then see if I can copy it to my computer, burn it to a DVD and then play it on the TV, as I had done in the past. I thought the issue was with the NERO software, but I removed it and reinstalled it. But it still does not look the same as before. Maybe its me. And since I burned the files to a DVD using Windows, that eliminates the Nero software. Your question about the TV and Audio_TS Video_ts,------I have no idea. Thanks to you and PeterOz for your help. Much appreciated. I will post back when I get the old Camcorder out and try again like I used to . Mike

Get a DVD that you have made and put it in the computer
Open the dvd with explorer and see what the file format is.

Can you afford to burn 1 more disc?
Use VLC player and convert to MPEG-2 +MPGA(TS)
From what I can see Nero burns MPEG2
and I found this on your dvd player. It has MPEG2

I cannot test this. I tried and have found out that my DVD player no longer works

I don't intentionally mean to bring up the whole "Welcome to the 21st centaury" thing again, but....

This is more of a looking forward and eliminating the current hurdle - is it a smart TV, that is. web connected?
I went back through the posts, using 'boy look' mode, and couldn't find if you had given us the make/model of the TV.

If it is smart, wouldn't it be nice to store your digital media in the cloud (yes yes I know) and have the TV access it that way.
And the cloud doesn't have to be Dropbox, OneDrive or similar, it could be as in my case, my Network Attached Storage box which my TV can access.
Even my TP-Link Archer modem/router has a built-in media library, shared network feature.
Just saying... offering alternatives - don't shoot the messenger! :)
