Hi

Can someone out there please help me.

I’ll just explain the issue I have.

I got a computer repair shop to connect to my computer remotely because I was having printer problems.
However now they have finished I’ve been left with another problem ie when I start my computer up I’m presented with my usual desktop wallpaper and various desktop shortcuts.

If the computer goes into standby mode, and I then move the mouse to wake it, I’m presented with a back screen with the desktop shortcuts, so my wallpaper is no longer showing unless I re-boot the computer.

Another thing is if I click the TeamViewer desktop shortcut a window pops up with company’s name who help me with my printer problem.

I thought it might be an idea to remove TeamViewer from my computer which is running Windows 11 64 bit, unless there is a way of getting rid of the black screen and their company logo name?

Below is what I’ve been into so far to try and find a remove command for TeamViewer:

Add and Remove Programs (it wasn’t listed.)

Control panel
Programs and features (its not listed in Programs and features)

Add or remove programmes
Apps › Installed apps (its not listed in Installed apps)

This pc
Local disk C:
Program files (its not listed in Program files)

This pc
Local disk C:
Program files (x86) (its not listed under (Program files x86)

This pc
Local disk C:

Clive
AppData
Local (Eventually I find Teamviewer in the list, if I go into it, all it shows is the following 3 folders Database, Logs and Remote Printing)

Temp (Eventually I find Teamviewer again in the list but removal program).

How do I get the darn thing off my computer, does anyone have any ideas on what I could try and how I go about doing it.

My thanks to anyone who can advise

Clive

Remote control programs like Team Viewer, Supremo, LogMeIn don't get install per say.
They just get started from double clicking the downloaded program and it opens the necessary ports to allow remote access.
So no, you won't find any traces.

If some Windows setting has changed, they did that while they had control, if they are of a sinister nature, they would have done something stupid, but since it seems they only left behind their company name/logo, I'm guessing they are just taking advantage of some 'free' advertising or product placement.

Is the Team Viewer desktop shortcut an actual shortcut to where the program lives, or the program itself?
Either way, right click the 'shortcut' and check Properties to see where it points to and delete that location and the desktop location.

There are two wallpaper pictures/settings, one is your normal background picture, the other is the Lock Screen picture.
Sounds like they may have changed the Lock Screen image.

Thank you for your replies guys.

I would like to just say I’m a silver surfer and when it comes to computers, I use them, fix anything on them and I’m hopeless at it, so the last thing I want to do is mess things up altogether by deleting the wrong things.

PeterOz I’ve looked in my Firefox browser and I’m not sure if I have checked correctly, but I went into Tools then clicked Add-ons and Themes which presented me with a list,

Recommendations
Extensions
Themes
Plugins

Each of these I’ve been into but could not see Teamviewer.
If I’m done what you said incorrectly, please let me know?

I do have Chrome also but I can remember the last I used it.

I have the program called Everything on my computer and did a search using it, the results of which I’ve attached a picture.

Bruce, you said TeamViewer does not get installed, I’ve used Everything as xrobwx71 suggested and it’s come up with the list shown in the attached picture, so I’m assuming by that something must get downloaded, well that’s my way of thinking.
I’ve also right clicked the desktop shortcut and been presented with what’s shown in the attachment after clicking properties.

Bruce I will try and look at my wallpaper settings tomorrow, when I find out how to do it.

So where do I go from what I’ve done so far?

In the 1st picture - delete everything.
In the 2nd, if TeamViewer installed anything, it'll be in Extensions.
For the 3rd, the Location field tells you where that file on the Desktop resides, and it's the file itself, so not a shortcut, and can be deleted.

As to the Lock Screen, click Start and literally start typing 'lock' (without the quotes).
Under Best Match, click Lock screen settings.
If they have changed it, you'll see it under Personalise your lock screen.
After that, while in the area, click Personalisation from the left column and select Background and change that accordingly.

Ok that is Teamviewer quick support
There is a Teamviewer icon on the desktop
You can delete that.
We can delete the other files if you want.
They won't do any harm as Quicksupport does not install on the computer

so my wallpaper is no longer showing unless I re-boot the computer.
On the desktop
Right Click on the mouse
Left click on Personalization
Select either a theme or click on Background
Also scroll down and check Lock screen

Bruce and Peter

I’ve deleted all the files “Everything” found and in doing so it also got rid of the desktop shortcut/icon at the same time.
I’ve had a look at the File Extensions in Firefox and all I can see are Rercommended Extensions, I’ve included a screenshot of what I can see.
If I should be looking somewhere else, please let me know?

Changing the Desktop picture, I didn’t do what you said Bruce ie. type in the word Lock, instead I did as Peter suggested ie. right clicked the desktop and followed the rest of his instruction.

Following Peter’s instructions and from there I navigated my way through to the folder with all my photos in and there was nothing showing in it.

I decided to come out of that and use the desktop shortcut My Documents and again navigated my way through to the same folder and it was full of photos, how crazy is that! see my screen shot.

I followed Peter’s instruction again with same result, an empty folder.
In view of this I ended up clicking all over the place, well at least enough so could not remember what I’d clicked, but eventually managed to change the desktop wallpaper/background.

Bruce, after setting up my background picture I decided to type the word Lock as you suggested, just to see what it did and it presents me with a window as shown in my screen shot.
I decided not to lock anything just in case I managed to lock myself out of my own computer and besides only myself and my wife use it.

I’ve also checked if the screen had stopped going black on wake up and sure enough it looks as though the problem is fixed as the set photo appears each time I wake it.

It’s still strange to me, if you go onto the TeamViewer website it says to remove it go to Add and Remove Programs, but then again its on my computer which always has to be different, just so I end up with a headache trying to sort it out.

How on earth people manage to hack into computers I will never know because I can’t manage to hack my way into my own files :)

Thanks again for your help fellas its much appreciated.

With your Lock Screen, hitting that Open option in your picture will take you there.
But it sounds like that wasn't part of the issue after all. Wouldn't hurt to still look, you have come this far.

As to how you got there (my process or Peter's) doesn't matter - you'll find with most things related to computers, there are usually more than 1 way to skin the cat.

With browser extensions, my main two go-to ones are uBlock Origin and Disconnect.

if you go onto the TeamViewer website it says to remove it go to Add and Remove Programs
That is where you are going wrong.
These instructions are for Teamviewer program.
You were using Teamviewer Quicksupport qhich does not install.
Deleting the remnants of the file should have fixed everthing.
No need to worry about the browser now.

Is everything ok now?

Bruce,
I have to admit, I had to look up what uBlock Original and Disconnect where and what they did, having said that I do have Bitdefender install on my computer with a VPN.
I’m assuming they offer the same sort of protection.

Peter,
I’ve had a look at TeamViewer and TeamViewer Quick Support and can now see the difference between the two, thank you for pointing it out to me.
It explains why I could not see it in the Add and Remove listing and yes everything appears to be working ok now.

Thank you both again for you help
