Hi, I received a free PC from somewhere and it has:

ASUS P8Z77-M PRO,
Corsair 8 GB 2x DDR 3
Cooler Master MWE 650 Bronze
ASUS GTX1070 Dual fans
i7 3770K
Corsair Vengeance 16gb (2X 8GB)1600MHz

My friend who had no idea of what he was doing pressed the i7 into the socket upside down and bent the socket. Now the motherboard is useless. Everything else works fine. When I looked around for another one of the same motherboard I saw that it was priced at around 120. And they are used. This motherboard is old for sure but it must be a good one to be so expensive for such an old motherboard. Maybe there are newer motherboards which are similar or better in performance and cheaper?
Can you guys help me find a good motherboard please.

It is not expensive because it is good but because it is old and still working which means that anyone that really wants it will pay more than it is actually worth.

Any used Intel socket LGA 1155 MB that has the correct version of BIOS will be okay for the CPU but you need to make sure that the MB will fit inside any case that you intend to use.

How do you know this when the present MB is bricked.

First of all, thank you for your reply.
So how do I find out which version of BIOS this motherboard has?

I tested it, everything turn on and work I also bought and placed the new giga fans for the graphics card since it had one broken. Besides the one who gave the pc to me is the person who broke the socket front of my eyes and he said it turned on and was old windows on it. I want to build this and sell it for a few hundred. Not really for personal use I have Lenovo thinkbook and it's fine.
The case is not the problem, there is enough for free on the internet. I can get another case thats bigger and figure out a way to attach it if it doesnt fit with the screw holes I use a hot glue gun or zip ties or something.

I see now, this makes me happy. I think now I can find a newer MB that is cheaper and better than this one. Can you list me a few MB with same BIOS and or better performance please.

Edit: He bent the CPU socket pins by pressing the i7 upside down. MB works fine. I looked up for a new 1155 socket aand it only cost a few $ but soldering it onto the MB is a bit challenging because I don't have that kind of temperaturemeter.

I'd also say be careful mucking around inside that PSU or your need for a motherboard will be null.

If you went with the same board, you'd need a case that's compatible with mATX form factor.

These are all LGA 1155 motherboards but again as @phillpower2 stated, you'd need a case that is compatible.
Don't worry about it. I opened it because it was full of dirt, I cleaned it under water, brushed all the dirt off and let it dry. Same goes for everything else. It's been sitting there for couple of months now. I know it's electronics but you can clean them by brushing with dish soap as long as you don't turn it on again until it's completely dried. It was pretty dirty. Now it's all like a new. Even the graphics card I took apart as much as possible lol

I forgot to mention I have its case, it came with everything including monitor and even keyboard mouse etc. But I don't know if I will keep it because it's ugly tbh. Thanks for the tip, I appreciate it.

My two cents, as a side note, a Bronze rated PSU, even a 650w one running a 500w min requirement GPU would be better with a Gold+ one.
It's a cleaner sine wave, better components, and longer warranty. :)

I have no intention of personal use. Not looking for to upgrade or whatsoever. Im going to sell this complete for a few hundred. Got it for free.

Btw BIOS doesnt matter much since I will format anyways.

You cannot format the BIOS as it is stored on a preprogrammed chip on a MB, if it was possible to format a BIOS chip the result would be a dead MB.

For me the ASUS and for two reasons, the shipping costs and more importantly the ASRock Z77 Extreme 4 has known memory incompatibilities, see reviews here and here

Thank you, I was thinking the same thing. And thanks for the tip about the BIOS. Anyways I meant formatting the hard drive. So I don't care, I will install the latest drivers for everything. It doesn't really matter to me if the BIOS is different because I have never used this PC and going to sell it anyways. As long as it works with the components and I can install the drivers for the MB BIOS I should be good to go right? As for the details I don't care much because it's not like this is a high end gaming PC.
Thanks again.

I suggest that you do some research into building and upgrading computers.

If any MB does not have the appropriate version of BIOS for your CPU the BIOS will not recognise the CPU and the MB will fail the power on self test ( POST )

The ASUS board should be okay as only the second version of BIOS is required, you can confirm this for yourself here and here

You are welcome btw :-)

Yes I thought if it is compatible with the i7 3770k which is a 1155 than the BIOS should work too. Anyways good to hear that it works. I found the ASUS on Aliexpress currently waiting for a price drop, I contacted the customer support and said I'm a new subscriber amd didn't receive any gift as a price drop so max in 2 days they will let me know if I get a $6.00 off of it.🤣

It does have to be a socket 1155 board and in this instance only an early version of BIOS is required but had a later version been required but had not been flashed the MBs BIOS would not have been able to recognise the CPU, example, had the CPU been an i5-3570S the MB would need to have BIOS version 0610 to be able to recognise the CPU, if the earlier BIOS version 0312 was still present it would not be able to recognise the i5-3570S and the board would fail the POST.

Lol it's funny because I'm so simple minded because I have no knowledge of these things. Thanks for the big help. I will post the pc when it's ready. I wanna know how much I can get out of it with a realistic price.

You are welcome but sorry to dampen your spirits with what the finished article will be worth, not very much I`m afraid. possibly around the €100 region.

Nah, I think not. Only the graphics card is worth around 150 euro. And none on the internet that I found are better looking than this one. I was looking for the same MB(which is the broken one) to replace it and found a PC which had it, it had lesser components such as RAM and graphics card and a i5 in it that's older and the i7 3770k. Its sold fast for 200 euro.
I think I would get more out of this. I then did some research and found out that if you combine 3770k with this graphics card you can play 4k with high settings but not ultra. I remember for examp I played Green Hell on the thinkbook laptop and the least requirement were 4gb ram and 4gb graphics. With standard 3.2 ghz. i7 if overclocked can reach 3.9. Standard 3.5. I had it on ultra high and the game was doing well for a long while I played in the jungle gathering building exploring etc there was no lag nothing until the cutscene, there it crash the cutscene would not play, because of some resolution issue I think. At the end I got my money back from that. Anyways I have i5 1135 in my thinkbook and I know it's 11th gen. But a 8gb graphics card is still better than just a CPU.
These components maybe old but they are still decent. I even thought of getting another of the same GPU and make it 16gb but then found out it's a lot of work and a mess(for me) sync those together and use both at the same time. If I remember correct it was something called SLI and only certain GPU and needed an extra slot for the extra GPU.
Thanks for the tip as always.

I was going to say 100 to €150 but didn't want to get your hopes up, the GPU sold on its own would generate more cash, anyone wanting just the GPU will not be prepared to pay for the whole PC when they only want the card and especially when the present PSU is junk and should not be used anywhere near an add on GPU, fwiw, the PSU is rated as – Tier E • Avoid

Thank you for being honest.

I see what you mean. A decent PSU is around the same 100-€150, which is a gold. I'm thinking it's not worth it for it. I have to buy everything else. I will have to spend a few hundred on it. Might generate more cash than but is there any point in doing it... I think I will just put the GPU for sale and put the rest for a cheap price. Anything I can get out of it is profit.
