I have a hp 15-ay039wm laptop. It has an inlay keyboard. I don't know how to get to it to replace it.

Or clean it.

Some small amount (about a thimble full) of cooking oil spilled in it by accident. It was sunflower oil.

Long story. I feel really stupid (please don't rub it in).

The PC seems to work fine, but.... The keyboard is hard to respond.

It happened 2 days ago.

At first it was just a few keys, now- its a bit more than half the keys on the board.

I have repaired/replaced other keyboards before (not because of oil spills, this is a first) and done other laptop and desktop repairs fine in the past.

But.... I don't know how to get to the inlayed keyboard. I poped out keys, cleaned what I could.

But, its not helping. I don't know what screws to remove to get to it.

Can anyone offer me help?

I looked at YouTube, but there wasn't anything about this PC or anything like it.

Thank you. That tells me what I need to replace it.
But, can anyone tell me how to get the keyboard out?

It's not the type you can just lift out. It's set inside, with the keys protruding from the body of the unit. I tried taking the keys off and cleaning with alchahol. But, it didn't help. I either need to clean it further, or replace it. I don't know how to get it out though.

I'm sorry for the trouble.
I saw a video where someone removed a Macbooks similar keyboard- they had to use a soldering iron. I'm hoping I don't have to use a soldering iron with this. I don't know what screws to remove in the motherboard to lift it out to get to the keyboard.

Do not expect the keyboard to just pull away. There is a thin, short, fragile, ribbon cable that connects the keyboard to the motherboard. You can also do a search for you model and keyboard replacement which may also help.

Remove the battery and the power

Look at the back of the system to see if there are any screws that have pictures that look like Keyboards. Those are the screws that hold the keyboard in place.

Flip over the system and you may have to gently pry the keyboard off then unlock the cable for the motherboard and remove.

Any update for us Toria S.? If unreplied to within 48hrs this thread will be closed.
