Hi

This morning my pc would start up. the fans spinned for a second and then stopped. I opened my case and tried again this time the pc booted without problems. So i shut it down, closed the case and now it wouldnt start again. So once more I opened the lid and still it wouldnt start.

i tried disconnecting all the power supply connectors en reconnecting them. This helped and i could start again. But then after shutting it down and not touching anything, again it didnt start.

I then tried disconnecting my gpu, switching out the ram, disconnecting the harddrive i even disconnected the fans. nothing produced a consistant result. sometimes it booted, sometimes it didnt.

I finally gave up, reconnected everything and it started. its now been running for over an hour without problems, even removing the lid and gently shaking it has no effect.

any ideas what this can be?

Welcome to PCHF mikael6,

A couple of things come to mind, a loose/bad connection, flaky/weak power supply a failing motherboard.

If the computer is a desktop can you post the brand and model name or number of the power supply (PSU).

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

The only way to find the PSU details if you do not know them is by opening up the side of the case and then getting them of the information sticker.

Question, is the operating system on this computer legit, we have to ask as Speccy shows that the OS was installed on 14/02/2018 but has never been updated, until we can see a fully up to date OS we cannot help any further as we have no way of knowing if the OS is legit and to help would put us on the wrong side of the law by breaking the Terms and Rules conditions.

Edit to add: Before you can get Windows fully up to date you will need to free up some space on the C: partition, for as to why see info below;

Partition 1
Partition ID: Disk #0, Partition #1
Disk Letter: C:
File System: NTFS
Volume Serial Number: 5EC2F2F5
Size: 238 GB
Used Space: 201 GB (84%)
Free Space: 36,7 GB (16%)

For Windows to be able to run efficiently and to be able to update you need to have between 20 and 25% of the partition or drive available as free storage space at all times, if you don`t you risk Windows becoming corrupt or not being able to update which puts you at risk of malware attack.

Data only storage devices should not be allowed to get any lower than 10% of free storage space of the full capacity of the drive/partition on the drive, this also to avoid data corruption.

Please note that storage devices can physically fail if the amount of free storage space is allowed to drop below the required 10 or 20/25% minimum.

Advised via PM of a problem with the OS so marked thread as having been answered.
