Hi All,

I built my PC 3-4 years ago, and just recently (~1 month ago) started to encounter some issues. Of course these issues did arise post BIOS update, though I also was tweaking some BIOS settings post update (xmp1, secure boot). I cannot nail down any specific settings or scenarios, but have noticed a few trends, plus ultimately do know I am not getting the most out of my PC at the moment.

Issues / things I've encountered:
  1. Cannot wake up my PC from sleep. This is not a huge issue for me as I do keep my sleep setting on 'never', but nonetheless this became apparent post BIOS update as my sleep setting seems to have reverted to x minutes.
  2. Intermittently cannot boot to windows / get stuck in BIOS w/ BOOT light on MB.
  3. Intermittently freezes (no response & cannot move anything. Sometimes preluded by choppiness / stuttering)
  4. More frequent freezes when trying to use all (3) of my monitors
  5. More frequent freezes when xmp1 is enabled

Specs:
  • PSU - Corsair SF750
  • MB - MPG B550 GAMING EDGE WIFI (MS-7C91)
    • Updated BIOS ~1 month ago to - 7C91v1I1(Beta version) - had updated since initial build
  • CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
  • GPU - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
  • RAM - 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3200MHz - CORSAIR VENGEANCE RGB PRO Series
    • Currently running at default 2133 MHz. I seemed to have more frequent freezing issues w/ xmp enabled.
  • Disk - Samsung SSD 970 EVO 1TB
    • Windows 10 Pro

Can you revert to BIOS that had no issues?

I seemed to have more frequent freezing issues w/ xmp enabled.
XMP is a form of overclocking. If your RAM is not rated for the speeds you reach after enabling XMP, you'll often see issues. Disable XMP.

After completing the above, let me know how it runs plus if you're still having the sleep issues.

Unfortunately/stupidly I did not take note of the prior/initial BIOS version. That said, I *think* I know what version I had & will look to revert. For now/in the meantime, I did just m-flash the second latest version (was on latest); upon boot / windows login, had a frozen taskbar again. I force restarted twice & now am here writing this :).

Regarding XMP, I currently have / have generally had this disabled. Only historically enabled for testing purposes / in an attempt to get the most out of my hardware.

Is XMP disabled now? If not, please disable it.

Download and run this tool : https://pchelpforum.net/resources/pchf-assistant-by-malnutrition.256/

Only run SPeccy and Minitoolbox. Upload both in your next post, please.
XMP - yes, disabled as mentioned in my last comment.
Tool - Is 'pchf assistant by malnutrition' open source / is there a git repo? Obviously this forum is well established & the linked page is featured, but still would be remiss to dl without knowing what this is.

It's safe. Written by our Admin and Security Expert here at PCHF @Malnutrition

Or:

Download Speccy.

https://www.ccleaner.com/speccy/download

How to post a Speccy shot 😀

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

  1. In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.
  2. In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.
  3. Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot dialog box. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

Download Minitoolbox from the below link :
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/minitoolbox/
Run the tool and only select the following tick boxes.
-List last 10 Event viewer errors
-List installed programs
-List devices
