Hello! I needed a new laptop so I bought an Asus Rog Fx502vm because it was for a really good price, however I do photography colour work and the default TN panel was really really bad. So I saw quite a few cases of people online upgrading the screen successfully so went ahead and got a B156HAN04.2 compatible panel.
I managed to install it successfully, however on booting after the Asus logo, when it gets to windows it goes completely dark.
-the display is working, just backlight seems to be off, as if I shine a light on it I can see it's working.
- with external monitor, laptop works perfectly fine.
-If I access bios, the screen works normally
-On windows recovery screen, the display works as expected too
- I uninstalled the Nvidia 1060 drivers with DDU and after rebooting the display panel works well, so the backlight is only on when there are no Nvidia drivers installed. As soon as I install the latest GPU drivers or windows auto-installs the default ones, the display goes black again.

I don't really know what to do at this point, so I'm really thankful in advance for all your attention and advice. Much love!

Hello

Hopefully some of our members will chime in soon.

@phillpower2 @Bruce
Thanks in advance once again. I have also tried manually uninstalling all monitors from the Device Manager but it doesn't change anything.

Nvidia Driver 378.78 works well and is the last one that does. However there are plenty of applications that only run with the most modern drivers so it really doesn't seem to make sense to use a 2017 driver, while all newer drivers are disabling the backlight.

Apart from DirectX I am not aware of any program that is driver specific so would appreciate if you could direct me to a program that is, proof if it were needed that we learn something new every day.

As a rule of thumb drivers should not be allowed to auto update and you should never update any driver/s unless the new drivers are intended to resolve a specific issue that you are having, installing the new drivers can actually cause you the very issues that they are intended to resolve and uninstalling the new drivers may not resolve the problem/s, as the saying goes "if it aint broke don`t fix it".

I'll tag out of this one.
the new screen seems to be working, just a driver issue.
you may have to wait for a newer software version to be released.
have you checked out the nvidia forums?
and do you know if the new screen is compatible with the 1060 graphics hardware?

Thank you for your input guys. Indeed I am also in contact with Nvidia support seeing if they can help as it seems absolutely a driver issue.
So far I made this progress:
I found out that if I use "CRU" (Custom Resolution Utility), and I use the Graphics Driver restart feature, then close the laptop lid and open it back up again, then suddenly the screen begins to work! I documented this in this video you can see: https://photos.app.goo.gl/b5igxthb7hmjkQv76

So if I restart Graphics Drivers while the laptop is on, put down the lid and back up the screen starts working normally. If I make it sleep, the monitor continues to work normally but if I restart the computer I need to do this process again.

I can't figure out why does restarting the graphics drivers would help? Is it possible to somehow see what setting is this changing or missing?

Any word back from Nvidea.

Can you let Bruce know the answer to this.

Possibly because other drivers (the wrong ones) are being installed first, one of the reasons why you should not allow Windows to automatically update drivers is because Windows has form for needlessly updating drivers and causing problems + totally wrong drivers can get installed.

Any update for us? This thread will be closed if not replied to within 48hrs.
