I left my computer unplugged for almost a week. Then, I tried switching it on again. The display did not appear and all the peripherals were not powered. This happened in the past occasionally and the solution was then to simply restart the PC once or maybe twice. This time however nothing happened after numerous attempts.
I decided to start unplugging my harddrives, there are three in total. Two of them only hold data. I thought that perhaps I was not providing enough power to the PC, since the PSU is marked for 750W. Finally it started doing something. My default OS is Debian and as it started booting, it was doing some checks and froze. I restarted again, this time it booted with graphical glitches, even in the ASUS BIOS welcome screen.
After a couple of attempts I managed to get a configuration that reliably gets me into the BIOS. Weirdly, I unplugged the additional drives from the motherboard but kept them powered and for the moment it was some progress.
Next, I reset the CMOS by removing the battery. The problem is that now I cannot boot my OS. It simply does not load GRUB. The Windows image on a dual boot does not load either, at first it was saying that the pin got lost and did not allow me to reset it.
I managed to boot from a live USB and mount the debian partition. I rebuild the kernel and the grub image. Nothing changed. I started thinking that my BIOS settings are wrong. I tried disabling the Secure Boot but this option is grayed out! In desperation, I reset the keys to default values.
Now Debian does not boot, I cannot access GRUB by holding Shift (I was able to do that at some point), and Windows boots to a black screen.
What is this madness!? Do you have any idea what could be the cause and how do I remedy this problem?
