I have a 20" eMachines monitor from 2009 that cost about $100. One day it just faded for a second then died. When I turn it on, it shows the "eMachines" logo and briefly shows the "Acer" logo from the attached computer, but then nothing. It's all black. A new VGA cord did not help. But a new monitor works fine with the computer. Should I just toss the old monitor, or can it easily be repaired?

Thank you.

Not a cost efective repair Im afraid, good troubleshooting by yourself confirms that the screen is faulty, thirteen years of use is not a bad record.

Thanks so much phillpower2! And thanks also for your compliment. Yeah, 13 years is a long time, especially for only $100, lol!

also suggest the unit is not worth it.

hourly labour charge alone would make it not cost worthy.
even if it's the common stuff like the power circuitry or backlight panel, repair will cost more than initial price.
plus a new, cheap, 24" screen, is about $150 - cheaper again if you go used.

Thanks so much Bruce! I agree with your assessment.

[BTW, I tried to mark this thread as "solved", but I didn't see an option to do that or edit my post.]
