Good day/evening,

RE: Dell Inspiron 530 desktop / Vista Home Premium SP2 / 2.67 gigahertz Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 / 3.3G RAM

It's been awhile. Glad to see the forum is around and thriving.

This is my 84 yr old mother's desktop which will be replaced when the upcoming Black Friday, Xmas deals kick in. I'd like to get it working properly for a while longer until a new one is purchased and to backup files etc

Current problems:

1- Getting BSOD every shut down and restart.

2 - System Restore does not work.

3 - VLC v3.0.4 media player not working, but Windows Media player does.

The minidump file is attached, as well as photos of the BSOD message.

The PC should be virus free as I've run Zemana Antimalware, ZHP cleaner, JRT, Adware Removal Tool, Kaspersky TDSS Killer scan & ADWCleaner scan.

Above software was run again in Safe Mode, where possible, as well as sfc /scannow, chkdsk, and Windows Repair software from tweaking.com.

your help is appreciated,

Paul

Hello paulwb,

bcmwl6.sys was responsible for the crash and is related to a Broadcom 802.11g network adapter device.

You do not mention having any wireless device only the Conexant D850 PCI V.92 modem, any idea why there are wireless drivers installed.

NB: Dell do list wireless device drivers for the Dell Inspiron 530 but none for any Broadcom device, you can check this here

Hi phillpower2,

Thanks for your input. I'm pretty sure the pc never had a wireless card. Will have to double check and get back to you later today.

Also, I'm not receiving alerts to when someone replies to my thread, even though Alert Preferences are set up to do so. Is there a bug in the system ?

thanks.

OK, so according to Belarc Advisor there is a wireless card in the PC.

6TO4 Adapter↓ Dell TrueMobile 1300 WLAN Mini-PCI Card

It's never been used or set up.

What do you recommend ?

Also, just noticed Geek Uninstaller shows that Google chrome browser is 1.06 GB in size !!! Isn't that high ??

thanks.

I had done a search previously and there weren't any Notifications in Spam/Junk.

Got a couple of notifications at 11:34 pm EST yesterday & 12:06 am EST this morning regarding your comment above . thank you.

Download and run DriverView which you can get from here
Save the results to text and attach to your next reply for us if you will.

Yes that is high.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:
In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.
In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.
Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

The DriverView file is attached.

Speccy was installed successfully but did not run properly. Got the following messages:

The executable program that this service is configured to run in does not implement the service.

Error connecting to publishing server.

I've attached a screenshot.

Speccy didn't work but Belarc Advisor did. I've attached screenshots.

thank you.

The driver that is identified in the crash dmp is for the Dell TrueMobile 1300 WLAN Mini-PCI Card that you mention, it is a Broadcom OEM device and if the device were ever to be used the drivers should be downloaded from Dell.

Create a new system restore point then find and uninstall the driver identified below;

Driver Name : bcmwl6.sys
Address : 0x91406000
End Address : 0x9181B000
Size : 0x00415000
Load Count : 1
Index : 57
File Type : Network Driver
Description : Broadcom 802.11 Network Adapter wireless driver
Version : 5.100.82.112
Company : Broadcom Corporation
Product Name : Broadcom 802.11 Network Adapter wireless driver
Modified Date : 11/08/2018 12:35:40 PM
Created Date : 11/08/2018 12:35:40 PM
Filename : C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\bcmwl6.sys
File Attributes : A
Service Name : BCM43XX
Service Display Name: DW WLAN Card Driver
Digital Signature :

Can you try running Speccy again to see if you can get the url to us, Belarc is ok but does not tell us all that we need to know.

NB: The error that you got when trying to run Speccy and the "Google chrome browser is 1.06 GB in size" could be as a result of a security setting, what AV is running on the machine.

Hi phillpower2,

System Restore does not work. I've attached a screenshot.

Driver bcmwl6.sys was uninstalled, restarted the PC and the BSOD error is now gone. AWESOME !!

AV used is Panda Free Antivirus. I disabled it, tried to run Speccy but it still failed to run properly.

Should I uninstall Panda AV?

What can be done about fixing System Restore ?

Thanks.

Can you not quote every reply please paulwb, it really doesn't help any and just makes for more reading, thanks for understanding(y)

Pleased to hear that the BSOD issue is resolved :)

Reason why I asked which particular AV was being used is because there is evidence of at least one other AV program being installed other than Panda, Kaspersky.

Having more than one AV installed on your computer is bad, it will slow down the computer, cause internet connection problems and leave you with no AV protection at all if they cancel each other out as they fight for resources.

If any AV product that you have is a paid for version you should always make sure that you have a copy of the product key kept somewhere safe just in case you ever wish to reinstall it.

Use the appropriate tool to get rid of the AV that you no longer wish to use.

Removal tool for Kaspersky here

Panda generic uninstaller here

Regarding the System Restore issue, can you start a new thread on the Windows 7 forum for this if you will, going off topic in a thread is frowned upon as it can cause confusion as to what has/hasn`t been resolved.
