Hello, i have shared internet with my Neighbor(router is in hes Apartment and im using ethernet cable from my apartment to hes), wanted to install TERA classic server on my pc(), for it i need to install xampp and Start the "Apache" and "MySQL" from the xampp control panel, im using Xvirus Personal Firewall(got the link here, in this forum ;) ), windows defender and vpn, my pc have password. When i activate those two modules, does it increase risk of my Neighbor entering my pc? i mean does it make my PC files public/easily accesible? Sorry for my english, and also my lack of knowledge about security. Best Regards ;)

Hi.

You put the Youtube video in front of your post and I wasn't able to read it. But I guess your question is about the risks that wifi sharing has. It's not a matter of making your files accessible or in public. No one can see your files. But there are many other risks you are taking doing this.

Read here:

You said, of course, you are using a VPN. This gives you a kind of encryption and protects your privacy. But this depends on other factors, e.g. what VPN you are using? Is it a paid subscription or free? And if you are willing to pay for a VPN subscription, why don't you prefer to pay for your own wifi?

Hello, thank you for answer and those links, will read them ofc ;) Also i dont have this possibility for my own WIFI here, because its very old building and in my Apartment i dont have the outlet to do it. Also im using Firewall "Xvirus Personal Firewall" and the VPN its proton, free one but i heard its actually one of 2 best free vpn's out there. And i dont use actually WIFI, my PC is connected to the router in Neighbor Apartment by ethernet cable. Ofc i disabled the sharing of folders/files in settings as well as disabled the option to find other networks in control pannel. Got many suggestions about the security here on the forum on another topic i wrote before some months, but now wanted to play some old game, but for that i need xampp, apache and mysql but no idea how much it would affect my security in my cause(sharing router that is connected via ethernet cable). Again sorry for my english ;)

Hello,

Most residential ISPs prevent and block XAMPP stacks for security reasons plus bandwidth reasons (as most connections would be inbound). XAMPP by default will open port 80 and 443 for inbound communications, and if remote MySQL is setup, port 3306. If anything, disable remote MySQL as that is a huge security risk.

Hi,

thank you for answer, do you mind to tell how to disable the remote MySQL ? :> do i need to do this in xampp? Will it make it then safe to Start MySQL/Apache modules in xampp? and what does inbound communication mean? tbh i dont really like that i have to use router from my Neighbor, but i dont really have the option to change it right now, and want just to make sure that no one will enter my PC from that ethernet cable ;> as said i disabled folder sharing, hide the net finding in settings. as well as installed firewall, but no idea how xampp and those 2 modules affect my security.
