Windows XP is optimized for processors having 256KB of Level2 cache. However, many of today's processors have more than this. Find out how much Level2 cache your processor has and carry out the following tweak:

1. Navigate to the registry branch HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\Memory Management.

2. Create a new DWORD under this branch called 'SecondLevelDataCache' and assign it a value corresponding to the amount of your processor's Level2 cache (for example, 512 or 1024 in the case of 512KB or 1MB respectively.)
3. Restart Windows and you will should see a further increase in performance of your system!

It's possible to get updates for windows XP untill 2019

just have to do this :

Windows + R , type Regedit.exe and click "OK"

open the registry Key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA , and right click on WPA , and create a new Key which you name PosReady

left clic on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA\PosReady and on the right column, right click and create a new DWORD KEY which will be named "Installed", and put the value to 1

Restart pc..

On my old laptop alt+spacebar doesn't seem to do anything, but alt+enter brings up properties on whatever is in focus?

The windows key also toggles the start menu on and off
