Hello,

It has been a few months since my windows updated. I noticed the lack of update, but just shrugged it off. A few days ago I noticed my GeForce Experience was not working in game, so I tried opening the program and it said there was a problem and to reboot. Rebooted, same thing. After Googling, I discovered one issue might be windows not being up to date, so I had a look in the settings. I have it start looking for updates, it apparently finds and tries to install them, but stops and says unable to install and gives this error message: 0x80070422

I opened my services.msc and saw windows update was disabled. Opened properties, changed the setting and clicked apply. "Access is denied". This is an admin account, I even ran as admin and same thing. I checked my task manager and found "wuauserv", which said windows update, was stopped. I attempted to start it and it said "the service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices."

I'm not sure what's going on, but this needs to be solved so I can get my GeForce working again. Turns out my NVIDIA control panel somehow uninstalled itself, and now I can't reinstall it, I assume because my computer isn't up to date.

Windows may have done you a favour here. NEVER let windows update your drivers. ONLY GET DRIVERS from the manufacturers website. Nvidia control panel certainly hasn't uninstalled itself.

Have a look here about updates. Dont download anything from this site just follow the guide.

@gus

It's funny you link that topic, it's the one I had found. Tried all of those options, still getting the same error. It gets to "Checking for updates...", then gives the error. Obviously it also says my Windows version has reached end of service and to update. Gee, thanks Windows, if only you'd let me do just that.

Also, so I disabled IPv6 as the page said, but should I re-enable it since it didn't change anything? I don't know what IPv6 does, but I wanna make sure I haven't disabled something important.

No not obvious, do you know what Windows build you have? It's in settings, system, about.

It appears your Windows is VERY out of date.

If you dont use Ipv6 you can leave it disabled for now, or you can re enable it.

Build is 17134.950

I couldn't tell you when or how this started, I normally only updated when going to shut down and my PC said it needed to. Didn't really pay attention to the fact that it wasn't updating.

@gus Sorry for the delay, been busy. I did what the video showed and I think I'm up to date, as I'm on version 1909. In the event of another windows update being released, how do I do it? After the update I double checked and it still shows there are some updates available. When checking my shutdown options, there's no"shut down and update".

Others may disagree but I would hesitate before downloading and installing updates immediately they are available as Microsoft have published some awful updates that have caused grief. You can in settings download any updates immediately if you want but some options may depend on your active hours, and of course the load on microsoft servers.

Remember to ONLY get drivers for you hardware from the manufacturer of the hardware and NOT via windows.

Thanks, one other thing. I reinstalled my GeForce and now that is opening fine. However, whenever I start my computer it says I'm missing Nivida Control Panel. I open the app store and it says I own it. Attempt to download and it keeps giving me an error.

@gus Yep I can open the GeForce window fine. I'm just not sure why Windows keeps saying it is failing to install the control panel.

Maybe others can help but your issue is not an isolated one, all I can suggest is to download the correct driver from Nvidia. After that uninstall the driver you have and install the driver you downloaded.

If I may chime in here folks :)

Can you post the brand and model name or number of the notebook and a Speccy url for us if you will, see info below;

Fwiw, like AMDs catalyst control centre I have always found Nvideas equivalent to also be a pain in the proverbial and far more trouble than they are worth, even more so on notebooks and brand name desktops as the OEMs BIOS tends to call the shots on what the motherboards discreet video chip is allowed to do performance wise.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

@gus @phillpower2

Everything was fine until I finally updated my laptop, now I'm having issues. GeForce works fine, I can record in game via Shadowplay and update drivers. It's just the control panel that seems to be the issue.

Another problem has presented itself now. My touchpad will not work. I have a mouse I always use, but the touchpad had never been disabled. Now it just won't work. Tried updating the driver but it said my driver is updated. Here's a screenshot of the error I get with that, and then here is your Speccy.

Please edit my post after reading and remove the speccy link. I'd rather not have the entire internet viewing my PC info, even if it's nothing private.

Edit by phillpower2: Removed Speccy url as requested by OP.

There are no updates shown to have been installed since you upgraded, this includes for Windows Defender.

Disconnect any additional USB devices that you may have connected to the computer, create a new system restore point then check for and install any security updates, once done, do the below for us;

Download and run DriverView which you can get from here

Save the results to text and attach to your next reply for us if you will.

I can't remove all the USBs. As I said, my touchpad no longer works. Without my mouse I can't do anything.
Aware of this and why I said "Disconnect any additional USB devices that you may have connected to the computer," apart from the mouse Speccy was showing at least one other USB device as being attached to the notebook, maybe Speccy had it wrong but last thing we need is an external USB storage device being connected and all of the data ends up getting wiped off it.

Can I ask what happened to the requested list of drivers?

I will let gus advise you on the content of the YT video, not one for interfering unless asked to.
