Hi there, it's been awhile. After performing factory reset on this computer, thus it lead to this issue, I can't activate the windows, and even I ignore it, sometimes it still pops up on screen asking me to activate the windows, it is really annoying especially when I am playing games

start an elevated command prompt and run sfc /scannow to check for system file corruption.

what is your Windows version and where did it come from?
when you typed in the Product Key, did you get that from the sticker on the PC case or installation DVD?

a common reason for that error is you have either used a wrong installation media or key for a Volume Licensed product.

if you have the Product Key handy, i have always found ringing the Microsoft Activation hotline very helpful. most of the time the voice recognition software guides you through the process automatically without even talking to someone in an Indian call centre.

Hi there, this laptop was purchased years ago from a physical store in Singapore, however, they didn't provide me anything like what you mention sticker or installation DVD, what I saw is only Windows 8 sticker at the bottom but didn't see any product key there, thus I used LicenseCrawler to find my default product key and try to activate it manually but still failed.

all I can say, based on the info at hand and the error code, it seems you are using a Volume License Key.
used by large companies to have one key activate 100's of their PC's.
these are sort after by hackers as they can sell the one key many times over.
once the key is reported stolen or abused, MS locks that key - I fear this is your situation.

your only option now is to get a new key from MS.
and you might as well do the free upgrade to Win10 at the same time.
keys can be purchased here.

I see, but now I'm in Windows 8, can I purchase a Windows 10 Home key from MS, and activate in Windows 8, thus follow by upgrading to Windows 10? I'm not really familiar with windows upgrading, I hope you can clarify for me what I should do next

you'll upgrade to Win10 first than activate with the newly acquired key.
you can get the latest Windows 10 Home image using the Windows Media Creation Tool and creating a bootable USB stick with it.

Problems with Windows product keys seem to be a regular thing with you KeanChim

BC threads here and here

Purchase a legitimate Windows product key and you will not have such issues.
