Hello toreee,

Before going to the time and trouble of formatting and reinstalling Windows lets take a look and see if there is any alternative.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

Acer includes the ability to burn DVDs to restore the computer, reinstall a program or reinstall a driver.
All Programs/Acer/Acer eRecovery Management.

Did you burn the DVDs?

Will come back to the Speccy log after your next update.

Couple of potential problems, one we can help with and one possibly not.

Can I ask who installed Windows 7 Ultimate on the computer and from where the installation media was obtained.

  • Please download WVCheck by Artellos from one of the mirrors below;
  • After the download, run WVCheck.exe
  • As indicated by the prompt, This program can take a while depending on your hard drive space.
  • Once the program is done, copy the contents of the notepad file as a reply.

The program cannot run because you are so low on free storage space on the HDD, this is one reason why you are having problems with the computer being so slow etc, the other problem is that you have two AV programs installed, I`m afraid that whoever installed Windows did so badly, the C: partition is way too small and on a 320GB HDD Windows should have been installed on its own 120GB partition.

Your HDD is also overheating due to the lack of free storage space.

Partition 1
Partition ID: Disk #0, Partition #1
Disk Letter: C:
File System: NTFS
Volume Serial Number: 48C0F584

Used Space: 41 GB (99%)
Free Space: 311 MB (1%)

Status: Good
Temperature: 52 °C
Temperature Range: Warning (50 °C to 55 °C)

Antivirus
avast! Antivirus

Company Name: AVAST Software

As plodr has said if you format the HDD you have no way of reinstalling Windows, two options, order the recovery media as also suggested by plodr or try and free up enough storage space on the HDD so that Windows can update.

Start by uninstalling any old games or unused programs and downloading then running the MBAM uninstall tool, download here once done, go to step two below;

Please download MINITOOLBOX and run it.

Checkmark the following boxes:

Flush DNS
Reset FF proxy Settings
Reset Ie Proxy Settings
Report IE Proxy Settings
Report FF Proxy Settings
List content of Hosts
List IP configuration
List Winsock Entries
List last 10 Event Viewer log
List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size
List Devices (problems only)

Attach the results to your next reply for us please.
