Iam not very good with a computer. My Brother has Gateway Net Book Windows 7.
I already put Linux Mint 18.1 on a USB also i put Pendrive Linux on the same USB i went in Bios and changed boot order to number 2 slot if i change it to top slot when i boot up it wont boot then it says boot manager missing i have boot order bios all around it wont boot to the USB. No doubt iam doing something wrong. Please help me my Brother wants Linux Mint.
I had no problem putting Linux Mint on my Acer. Thank,s Chuck

Sounds like you have a corrupted copy of Linux, or incorrectly created bootable copy, or you may have screwed up in the bios.

To boot from a usb may not have to go into bios. What is your motherboard brand and model number?

I recopied Linux Mint and even recopied Pen Drive Linux iam using the same USB for installing Linux Mint on my Acer, that went fine i just had to change my Bios boot order. I have tried many different versions of Linux on my Acer, so iam ok there. As far noing anything about my Brothers laptop i dont no alot all i no is its a Gateway Netbook LT40 Windows 7 Starter it runs Windows 7 perfectly fine but will not boot to Linux Mint USB i have changed the bios boot order many ways, it still wont read that USB. He would like have Linux instead of Windows 7, any ideas whats wrong?
Thank,s Chuck

I already have a version of Linux Mint Cinnamon 17.3 on my Acer laptop its loaded on the Acer . I did it myself, i used Pendrive Linux. I would like to try another version of Linux on a USB just to try it also would like to install something like Pen Drive for Linux if your already on a Linuux computer like you would use on a Windows computer. I have a 15 gig blank USB that i can use. I have no idea how to do this as iam new at Linux .
Thank,s Chuck

Why not use the USB Writer or Disk to create the USB drive from in Linux Mint?
This is solved now i went to Linux Mint home page i tried to put Mint on my USB it would not detect on the Netbook. i then went to Pen Drive site, on this site i downloaded Pen Drive and on there site plus i downloaded both to a USB, stuck it in the Net Book it read the USB right away i now have Linux Mint Cinnamon 18.1 on my Brothers Net Book, problem now solved. Thank,s Chuck

As per duplicate thread, you simply cannot COPY a file to a usb to make it bootable.
