Solved windows 10 wiped out my lexmark printer

and downgrading the whole PC back to Win8 just to get an old printer to work would seem counter-productive to me!
you'd have to load the whole OS from scratch then all your required software and restore your personal files.
then tweak all your settings: desktop, screen saver, power saving settings, bookmarks, menu bars, passwords, peripheral drivers etc.

but hey - it's not my PC or my problem to remedy. whatever rocks your boat. :)

Win8.1 mainstream support ended in Jan 2018 with extended support ending in Jan 2023, so you'll be downgrading to a soon-to-be OS without security updates and vulnerability patches being released and all that jazz.

and Win8 is long dead!
