I am trying to transfer files from Excel 2007 to a memory stick . once I have transferred the file it tries to open the File in the latest version of Excel.( Which I do not own). At the moment I can't find a way round the problem. I certainly am not buying the latest version of Excel when the old version works perfectly well!
any help would be much appreciated.
Richard

Are you opening the Excel files in the same system and or different?

If a different system, what version of Excel are you attempting to open the files with?

How are you transferring the files to the external drive?
Hi Rusty,
Thanks for the reply. The version of Excel is from M S Office 2007. I open two windows and drag a copy of my working Excel 7 to to the new window and deposit it on top of my existing copy of Excel on my memory stick. The first window is open showing all my documents. the second window is open showing the files on the memory stick. All my work is in Excel 2007. But the memory stick version if I try to open it, it opens in Microsoft Office Excel for windows 10. Of course it will not open because I have not bought Microsoft office for windows 10!

Hi Rusty,
Thanks for the concise instructions. I actually found Microsoft Excel 97-2003 . the little app photo on the right is for the latest Excel. I tried looking for alternative app's but nothing is available. When opening the Excel 2007 on the the memory stick the computer can't find the 2007 app!

You are welcome.
See if that helps at all.

Open the USB Drive
Select one of the file and Right click on it
Hover over Open With
Then select Choose Another App.
See if 2007 is listed there (May have to select More Apps)
Scroll through the list and select the one that you want.
Put a hash mark in the Box next to Always use this all to open .??? files

The other thing that can be done is uninstall the Windows 10 version of Office and do a repair install for Office 2007 (or just Excel).

Hi Rustys,
In the end I uninstalled the latest version of Office. I opened my old Excel which is on my desk top, it reinstalled itself automatically .My memory stick copy now opens with M S Office 2007.
But when I drag my updated Excel into the memory stick page it does not overwrite the previous copy! but that is no big deal I just delete the previous copy!
Thanks for all your help much apppreciated.
