I have an old Dell laptop that came with Windows 7 and was upgraded to Windows 10 during the free upgrade period. It was used often until about 3 years ago when it was put away. I'm using it right now to write this and it's functioning well, but it's having a problem with things like Windows Update and the Microsoft Store app. I had to manually download the most recent updates because it would not update on its own, it said it could not access the internet even though it was connected to WiFi and I could use my browser. I tried to download Spotify through the Microsoft Store app and it wouldn't come up at all, it says "Page could not be loaded, try again later". One thing I found interesting is that after the free upgrade, Windows 10 never did activate properly and it was used for a couple of years like that. After manually installing updates and playing with some things today, I was able to get Windows 10 activated, although I'm not sure how I did it. This laptop is not going to be used much in the future, but it would be nice to get everything working properly. I will do a fresh install of Windows 10 if I have to, now that it's showing as activated. But before I do that, I was wondering if anyone here has any ideas on what I could do.
Sidenote: this is my first time back on PCHF in a long time. My first ever post was on the old site (.com) in which I had a problem with my internet config on another computer after the free upgrade. Now, 4 years later, I found the time to do a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro and get it up and running, and it reminded me of this site and how helpful everyone is.
