For a little over a week now one of my laptops continuously loses internet and the globe icon for no internet will appear in the bottom right of my taskbar. If I right click the icon and select Troubleshoot Problems and Windows Network Diagnostics will run and fix the problem by "Reset WiFi Adapter" and the globe icon will change back to the Wifi icon on the taskbar and all will seem fixed. Moments later, the globe icon will return. Sometimes without me doing anything and the internet will be gone again. Sometimes I will get a few hours on internet before it stops again, today I have only got a few minutes at most before I see the globe icon again.

I connected an ethernet cable and ran the Network Diagnostics again and got a wired connection for a few minutes before it stopped as well. I am currently still wired after another Diagnostic run and hoping to stay connected to finish this post.

I have also tried disabling and enabling the wireless adapter and reinstalling the device driver in Device Manager. This was before I knew the problem was with wired as well. I have done several reboots.

Not sure what to try next so I figured to ask here. Any additional info you need from me, just ask.. and thank you

Following up, I left the ethernet cable to the laptop and didn't have any issues since posting. Just now I disconnected the ethernet and connected to my wifi. As soon as I tried to go to another webpage, I lose internet and get the globe icon again. I connect the ethernet cable and working fine again. So the problem seems to be only in the wifi and not with ethernet cable

all other devices are connecting to the wifi without issue

Lets try this first have you update windows to the newest version 1909 while it is connected to the wired connection.

Have you tried resetting the the network card form with in Windows
Open Settings
Click on Network & Internet
Click on Status
Click on Network reset
Click the Reset now button
Click Yes to confirm and let your computer restart

It may take a few extra time for the system to completely reboot since it is rebuilding the network then try the network and let us know.

If that does not help the we will need.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

I forgot to mention when the globe icon appears, if I mouse over it, my wifi name still appears with "No Internet" below it.

Per Rustys post:

Updated Windows version to 1909 with same results with wifi.

Reset the network card within Windows Settings and rebooted. Wifi connected and within a few minutes went back to globe no internet icon.

Downloaded and installed Speccy.
Publish Snapshot:

Which Modem and or router are you using to broadcast the WiFi?
Might also reboot them some times helps.

How comfortable do you feel about working inside the computer?
If you do not then do not attempt.

Try re seating the WiFi card be careful of the wires they are brittle.

Remember to discharge the system completely and yourself otherwise you may end up with a expensive door stop.

My modem is an XB6-T for Comcast (xfinity) ISP. It has a built-in wireless router.

I have rebooted the modem several times.

This is a laptop, so I am not sure if opening and reseating is possible. Would the card be built-in to the motherboard with my model?

It is a Dell Inspiron 5759 correct?

In the modem got into the Wireless settings for both the 2.4G and 5G and make sure the the broadcast channel is set to automatic.

Does the laptop have any issues connecting to a hotspot or is it just there at home?

Have you tried removing the WiFi references from with in Device Manager then reboot the system and allow windows to rediscover it and see if that helps.

My wifi has been working continuously for roughly 24 hours without issue. I have not did anything in Rustys last post yet.

The only change that I did was I opened my ISP's smartphone app. Its like a parental control app for your wireless network that lets to turn the internet off on certain devices on your network. I disabled this laptop's wifi access from the app and then restarted it. I have not lost wifi signal since. I am not sure if that does a reset for the wifi signal to individual devices from the ISP/modem side, but I did state that when I was losing wifi/internet, it was still saying I was connected to the network.

I just wanted to post this update. I would like to give it another 48 hours to confirm that was the issue and solved it. I will report back by friday with confirmation.

Thank you for your assistance.

This morning I had the globe icon for no internet again. Running Windows Network Diagnostic brought back the wifi and said Default Gateway is unavailable in the solution.

I am still on wifi for about 10 minutes since it came back. I will try Rustys troubleshooting steps on #10 today or tomorrow when I have time and report back.

Just wanted to post an update that problem is still occurring

Not a problem thank you for keeping us up to date.

Here is some other information that may help.

I had some time today to look at the issue and the was dropping consistently today. Would not give me more than 5 minutes at a time. I had the laptop off all weekend.

Per Rusty's post# 10:

Yes, the laptop is a Dell Inspiron 5759
The setting for Channel Width for 2.4 and 5GHz are both set to Auto
Tried connecting to my iPhone hotspot. It seemed to connect ok. It did have some drops, but those seemed to be from the cellular signal as I didn't have to run the troubleshooter to get my available connects back, I simply reconnected to the hotspot.
I have removed the wifi adapter in Device Manager then rebooted the laptop and let it detect the device. I still get the issue after this.

I am currently connected to the wifi and I disabled the ethernet port in Device Manager to see if the ethernet and wifi are conflicting by chance. Connection seems ok for the last 20 minutes.

I will report back once I lose connection again or receive further instruction.

This morning I checked the laptop and the globe no internet icon was back. Running the Windows Network Diagnostic would restore the wifi for just a few seconds before returning to the globe.

I am now testing the connection using a USB wifi stick. It has been connected for about 30 minutes without issue. I will test this for while to verify the issue is with the laptop's wifi adapter.

I have the wifi adapter disabled in Device Manager while I use the USB wifi.

I will report back if I lose connection again or receive further instruction.

Something else I want to point out,

When connected to wifi adapter, I noticed the laptop would run sluggish, as the mouse movement would lock up every few moments for less than a second before it would move again. I would not notice this after the globe appeared and I lost internet. It also didn't happen when I was connected with the USB wifi.

I ran CCleaner. Cleared all junk files and cleaned the registry. Made a backup beforehand.

Rebooted and connected back to the wifi adapter. I have been connected for about an hour now without issue and I am not noticing any sluggish movement either. That would seem to happen before I would lose internet.

I will report back if any changes happen.

Just to confirm that the wired is no longer having issues keeping a connection?

What type of security do you have enable on the modem. Some people set the modem to only allow this IP and or MAC address.
Log into the modem and look under Parental Control and make sure there is nothing there that may be causing an issue.

Have you tried disabling Panda Dome to see if that helps at all?

What were the events leading up to when this started happening?

How far and what does the signal have to pass through?

From what you have attempted and what we have attempted may be the WiFi card will wait and see what the results are from using the Dongle. If the dongle works then there is a strong possibility that the WiFi is starting to go.

after my last post #17, the wifi adapter lost internet again after about 3 hours. I switched back to the USB dongle. I will keep it plugged in until I lose connection again.
