My son was trying to upgrade his girl friends laptop and everything looked ok until it was time to reboot and now the laptop is stuck at restarting pc. Any suggestions? He has flushed the DNS cache and stopped the update service and still no joy..

Hey vger,

When you reboot it, does it attempt to load the OS at all? Like when you do a hard reset, does it try to boot into Windows 10? The reason I ask is because sometimes a hard reset is all it takes to clear the boot loop.

OK. What happens when you guys do a hard reset? Does it boot past POST, load the Windows 10 splash screen, then go immediately to "Restarting PC...", or does it try to finish the installer?

I know that a lot of people are experiencing issues with this. Are you able to boot into Safe Mode and see if you're able to at least boot into the desktop?

I mean if she won't reboot the computer manually, our diagnostics can't really go much further

As long as she does that, we can continue on with the diagnostics. :) I have a feeling a corrupted partition or file is to blame for this boot loop.

@Rustys feel free to pop in and give your input :p
