My PC freezes or restarts, apparently arbitrarily.
This issue persists for about 2 - 3 weeks now.

The first time it happend was while playing No Man's Sky, Path of Exile or Ale & Tale Tavern.

Since then I have updated my graphic drivers which resultet in at least Ale & Tale not crashing anymore - I haven't tested the other two games.

But now, since I updated the graphic driver a week ago, It started crashing the Unreal Engine editor.
My PC itself is about 5 years old and had never had any other noticeble issues.

The only two things showing in the Event Viewer are: DistributedCom 10016 (which is always shown after rebooting the PC as a warning) and sometimes Error TPM-WMI 1796 and Error Service Control Manager 7031 and 7023 (these are the only two event ID that occur close tho the DistributedCom 10016).

The result is either one of the following two:
  1. The PC is still running, but Mouse, keyboard and headphones (all Logitech) are turned off, so nothing can be done but hard reset.
  2. The PC restarts without any prior notice.

Speccy Snapshot:

I would be very glad if someone could help me with this.
Thank you very much in advance.

Right click on start & choose powershell/terminal with admin & type/copy & paste these cmds one at a time then click Enter:
Code:
SFC /SCANNOW
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
SFC /SCANNOW
Yes the Sfc cmd is run twice.

It seems it has found some corrupted files and fixed those. BEsides that It seems to have finished.
The only thing I notice is that componen cleanup had two bars, of which one only reached 10%, while teh second one reached 100%

I'm sorry for the late reply. I just noticed that you had answered almost 50 minutes ago.
even though I'm actively reloading the page every five to ten minutes, it seems that I've overlooked your reply and the page itself doesn't seem to update itself if there's a new message.

I'll try to reply to you in a more timely manner, but for the aforementioned reason, I might not be able to.
I hope this won't cause an issue.

I too see that - 10% then another bar to 100%. I don’t worry about it as long as it completes.
I would now check to see if the original problem has been fixed.

This time I got an actual bluescreen. I attached the Errors and warnings shown in the Event viewer, in case that helps.

I can't say, as I wasn't fast enough to read it before it restarted. I'll try to reproduce it again now. If it happens I'll try to make a photo of it.

This time it just restarted without a bluescreen again. Here are the event viewer logs. I'll try again and see if I can get a bluescreen.
(this happened while playing No Mans Sky, in case that is of importance).

Are you running an Insider build of Windows or release build?
Are all drivers up to date?
Is the BIOS the latest version?
Are the games running with the nVidia graphics or the inbuilt graphics? If the pc only has nVidia then that’s fine.
I would use DDU to cleanly remove the graphics driver then install a fresh version - I’d download the correct driver beforehand though.
DDU: https://www.wagnardsoft.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4966

where can I see which windows build I'm using?
and how do I check for driver and bios updates?

I only have nVidia graphics.

I'll now remove the graphics driver with ddu and install a fresh version

BIOS usually from the PC or Motherboard manufacturer - preferably from the pc manufacturer.
Drivers from the specific device’s manufacturer.

the pc is self-build so I'll use the motherboard manufacturer.
Besides bios, gpu and cpu, is there any other driver I'd have to check?

I'm also doing abackup first, so I will continue with the driver updates and reinstallation afterwards
