Solved Will switching to intel wipe my windows 10 os and the apps and files on it?

Recently I was considering buying a new motherboard and cpu since the one I have is incredibly old and outdated and struggles to run games like siege at 40 fps. I was also considering buying an sdd since I never had one before and I just wanted the loading times for games to be that extra bit quicker. On top of this I was thinking about instead of buying a new AMD motherboard and cpu, buy an Intel motherboard and cpu just because I have heard so many great things about intel and how generally they are the higher performing product. All I was wondering was that if I switch out my current AMD motherboard and cpu for an Intel one will it do anything like wipe the windows 10 os off of my computer or wipe any files or apps off it? Also will it be safe transition to make? Will it have any bad affects on my PC which damages the performance. I just want to make sure that switching from AMD to intel wont wipe my os and any apps or damage my pc. I am going to link my specs here if that helps you answer my question.

Hello

You have to wipe your drive anyway,because the reinstalled OS would have to install the chipset drivers for that intel mobo or any other mobo. I would suggest that you backup your files you want to keep before doing so.

Even if I bought a amd mobo and just stayed with amd, would I still have to wipe my drive and install the new chipset drivers?

Would it still wipe my files? Or would I have to export them onto a external hard drive and then re-install them back into my regular hard drive just a to be safe? Or is there any other way to backup my files without buying an external hard drive?

Yes you will need to back up you files as a precaution.
Yes with a new motherboard you will have to do a new install since the chipset and other drives will be different.


You might also look art replacing the HDD and Power Supply Unit since there is no telling when that may be failing. Plus you may have to replace the RAM the new motherboard may not support the current.

I am looking to replace the ram but the power supply is a 750w 80+ gold evga one and relatively new so I might just keep that.
