why does my computer hardware crash?

Im not sure crash is the proper term.

while using computer screen goes dark. Power light says lit. After several minutes I press-hold power button and after 5 seconds it powers down. I restart. It takes a very long time to boot up, then all is ok for months.

This has occurred a total of 3 times in the past 6 months.

I dont have any new apps or drivers installed that i know of.

I dont remember exactly what I was doing. It was either in my email app or reading something on the net or watching a video. I dont remember if it was triggered by an action on my part like a click or keystroke.

I didnt know if this is just an issue with monitor or with the actual computer.

So then I memorized keystrokes to power down the computer. I've been using those every time i turn off my computer since that 2nd occurrence above.

Months later while watching a video, it happened a 3rd time. I was 10 feet away and this long video is almost complete. The screen goes blank and this time the audio changes to a buzz-hum and does not stop. After a minute of no video and that constant buzz-hum I tried my shutdown keystrokes and that didnt work. After another minute i tried again. Nope, i cant shut down the computer. So, it's not just a monitor issue.

The next boot up took a long time. (maybe because of improper shutdown?)

That was several weeks ago and I'm still using the keystrokes to shut down my computer.

Ideas?

HP 24-e025t all in one.
Win 10

Thanks, paul

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

We now know that you have seven keyboards but not if you have tried any of them.

Couple of things that look off in Speccy, high temps and the amount of partitions on the HDD, who on earth created so many, each one gets checked before Windows shuts down and having empty partitions makes no sense.

Temperature: 48 °C

The temp of the HDD is most likely what is causing you issues, mechanical drives start having issues when the temps get within the 50 °C region.

Check your internal temps in the BIOS, you may even have a fan speed reading in the BIOS as well.

Download and run CrystalDisk info standard edition from here

Run the program, grab any screenshots and attach to your next reply for us.

To capture and post a screenshot;

Click on the ALT key + PRT SCR key..its on the top row..right hand side..now click on start...all programs...accessories...paint....left click in the white area ...press CTRL + V...click on file...click on save...save it to your desktop...name it something related to the screen your capturing... BE SURE TO SAVE IT AS A .JPG ...otherwise it may be to big to upload... after typing in any response you have... click Attach file to add the screenshot.

Screenshot instructions are provided to assist those that may read this topic but are not yet aware of the “how to”.

You also have an ongoing thread on at least one other tech forum.

We are always happy to help when we can but we cannot safely do so if you are already receiving assistance on any other forum, doing so may lead to confusion as to whose and what guidance you are following which can be both dangerous and costly, decide on which forum you wish to continue and as a courtesy let the other/s know that assistance is no longer required.

Thank you for your understanding.

While that may be your belief it is frowned upon on reputable forums and for more than the one reason, apart from the risk of mishaps people that post on multiple forums do not always follow up on all of their threads and no one has the right to monopolise the free help that forums offer.

You have been politely asked to decide on which forum you wish to continue, please do so.

And my neighbor was offended when he learned that i also get advice from others. So, i no longer get his advice.

I once had 5 contractors give me ideas and quotes for a new roof. The second contractor was offended when he learned that i was going to speak with 3 more. I crossed him off my list.

Different ppl in different forums give me different advice and i cant count how many times ive gotten much better advice on one and not the others. I often share what advice has worked for me on the other forums which benefits everyone.

I wont use your site again. Delete my posts and acct if u wish.
